Albert Pronio Obituary

Albert F. Pronio, Shenandoah, passed away peacefully Monday, the day after his 84th birthday.

Born in Shenandoah, March 26, 1933, he was a son of the late Anthony and Maria Dimberio Pronio. He graduated from J.W. Cooper High School, Class of 1950.

Al was a very proud Army veteran, having served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a 50-year member of the Anthony P. Damato Medal of Honor Legion Post 792,Shenandoah, a former Commander Club Veteran of the D.A.V., a former member of St. Cecelia's choir of the parish and a member of the Shenandoah Senior Citizens. Al was a machinist 1st class for Electric Boat and retired from General Dynamics on the submarine in Groton, Conn. He was a 25-year veteran of the International Association of Machinist's and Aerospace Workers.

Al was also a member of Divine Mercy Parish and formerly of St. Stephen's and Our Lady of Mount Carmel parishes, all of Shenandoah.

Al grew up learning to play the accordion and took pride in his musical talent.

On June 26th, 1985, he married Mary Ann Oravitz Pronio, who survives.

He started each day with a coffee and donut then doing the daily crossword puzzle from the newspaper. He was a regular for lunch and socializing at Diakon and the Damato Post. He was always ready to help anyone in any way he could. His smile was truly contagious and will be dearly missed.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother, Carlo, and sisters, Mafalda Muntone and Josephine Plaxa.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 32 years, Mary Ann, are his caring and loving children: daughter, Pam and her husband, Tom Twardzik; son, Mark and his wife, Annette, and Albert and his wife, Donna; six grandchildren whom he adored, Tommy and Nicholas Twardzik, Kayleigh, Christian, Ashley and Corey Pronio; sister, Mary Hertz; two brothers-in-law, Mike Plaxa and Joseph Muntone; sister-in-law, Marion Pronio. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and a great circle of friends.

Funeral services with full military honors will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday from Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc., 40 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in Divine Mercy Parish-Sacred Worship Site-St. Casimir's, officiated by the Rev. Jose Johnson. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A visitation will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc. has been entrusted with the arrangements.
