Thinking of Salty today. I made this page permanent for him and his children.

Salty and I met on board the USS America in July of 1972 when I checked into RVAH-6. He treated me like his younger brother (I was 18 in 1972) trained me in Supply under Chief English. I have never forgotten him and the patience he showed in teaching me my job. I have been thinking about him quite a bit recently and intended to contact him to say Hello. I waited too long. From the information I have been able to locate online about him, he has lived a very good life and was very successful. I am proud to have known him and call him my friend.

Michael, Matthew, Angela and Mason,

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your Dad. He was a very special man and a dear friend. The four of you were truly his pride and joy. He also loved his daughter-in-law Jess and son-in-law Drew and spoke of them often. Then there were the grand babies...Kayla, AJ and Maggie, you were the loves of his life. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

God bless you,
Debbie De Cola

Al,
Since we met 12 years ago, we have been in contact almost every day. We shared each others lives, good, bad, happy and sad. You were there every day when my Mom was leaving this world. I counted the days with you as you became "Pop-Pop". You often gave me advise and sometimes you asked it of me. Often we disagreed but through it all, we remained friends. We shared pics of our grand babies, our pets, culinary concoctions, your latest inventions and beautiful gardens. I always admired and respected you. I often told you that you were a "Worldly Man". You were one of the most intelligent/wise men I have ever known. You were so accomplished, charming, often very ornery and...oh so lovable. Al, you were always there...just an email or phone call away. I can't believe you are really gone. I sure don't know what I am going to do without you and I feel so sad that I did not get a chance to say "Goodbye." Instead I will say "So long for now, my dear friend. We will meet again someday." You recently wrote that you "felt at peace" and for that, I am grateful. I am trying to feel peaceful too but right now the world just seems empty without you in it. I love you Al and I will miss you every day for the rest of my life. I picture you now standing by the beautiful sea that you loved so much. Rest in peace my friend.
Love, Debbie
