ALBERT TAFFONI OBITUARY

Alberto Taffoni, 91, also known as Uncle (Zio) Al, was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois on February 13th, 1927. Albert's parents, Amedeo and Adelina (Lena) immigrated to the United States in the early 1900s from San Benedetto del Tronto area, Marche, Italy. He was the second-born of three siblings and was the last survivor of his family.

On Wednesday November 21st, 2018, Albert was taken to emergency due to a fall he sustained at his home. After a week in intensive care, he passed away due to organ failure on November 28th, 2018, at the Alhambra Hospital, in the city of Alhambra, California where he resided.

Albert enjoyed traveling and after a visit out west, at the young age of 20 years old, he convinced his family to move to Los Angeles in 1947. Soon thereafter, he enlisted in the Navy and was abroad for 4 years mainly in the Pacific Rim.
Once he was discharged from the Navy, he came home and completed his education at California State University, Los Angeles, to become an educator.
He was an English teacher and reading specialist at Griffith Junior High School in East Los Angeles until his retirement in 1987.

Albert and his brother Anthony (Tony) never married and shared the family home with several beloved pets until Tony passed away in 2005.

Albert possessed an outgoing personality and developed and nurtured close relationships with many people throughout the years, most of which turned into extended family members.

Albert loved to travel and did so extensively. During his sabbatical in 1968-69, he visited much of Europe in addition to the Iron Curtain countries. These travels were well documented with a number of pictures he took and shared with family and friends in slide shows over the years.

He was an avid reader and learner with a variety of interests including history, geography, art and music. His passion was preservation and he was particularly pleased with the current rejuvenation of the downtown Los Angeles area. Albert loved the city and created many memories for himself and frequently shared those memories with others during his famous "guided tours" of the area.

The funeral will take place on Friday, December 7th, 2018 at St. Peter's Italian Catholic Church, 1039 N Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90012.
There will be the rosary at 9:30 AM followed by a mass at 10 AM.
The burial will take place at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA 90601. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
