Alberta "Bert" Seaman Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 28, 2025.
Our beloved Mom, Gram, Wife, and longtime Worland resident, Alberta "Bert" Jean (Nelson) Seaman, 92, passed away on November 25, 2025 at her home in Sheridan.
Bert was born July 15, 1933, the sixth of eight children, to Albert and Martha Nelson. Bert loved her family, her childhood, and the rhythm of life on the farm. She adored her parents and would carry their spirit and legacy with her throughout her life. Bert always said her dad was the kindest and smartest person she knew. He was bedridden for 15 years with Parkinson's Disease; yet, not one time in those many years did he utter a word of complaint or self-pity. He used that time to continue to learn and read and always maintained his gentle, kind demeanor. Bert's mom came from Bosch lineage which meant she possessed an unmatched work ethic and resilience. Bert's parents were family-centered, generous people. They gave whole-heartedly and graciously and took care of anyone in need.
Bert attended school in Manderson - she loved school and learning, especially Algebra. She attended Montana State University in Bozeman where she earned a degree in Nursing. There could not have been a more perfect complement of person and profession.
On October 16, 1954, Bert married Jack Seaman; they were married for over 71 years upon Bert's passing. They enjoyed countless adventures across the years, laughed a lot, and always put family first. The couple had four children: Stuart, Jacque, Brad, and Sally. The joy and focus of Bert's life was being a mom and later a grandmother. She was an extraordinary mom - completely devoted, warm and loving, present and engaged, fun and upbeat. Her children adored and respected her; she was their rock, the best person they have ever known. Bert taught her children, by example, to be independent, hard-working, to use common sense, and to give to others generously and quietly.
Bert was hard-wired to help others and delighted in her many decades in the nursing profession from working in doctors' offices including for Dr. Engelmann and Dr. Jorgenson, to many years as Washakie County School District #1's school nurse, and finishing her career at Public Health. When Bert retired, she was not the oldest nurse in the state, but held the oldest nursing license in the state.
Bert possessed super human energy; no one could outwork her nor keep up with her pace when she walked. She was clean and meticulous; her house was always spotless and everything was in its place. Although nobody ever did, she took pride in the fact that "her floor was so clean, you could eat off it." She was never motivated by material possessions. She would joke that if she had to dust it, she didn't want it. Bert was an avid reader; she would frequent the library on a regular basis, reading any mystery she could get her hands on. Bert loved to play cards, especially Bridge. She enjoyed and cherished the many dear friends she made throughout the years sharing laughter and good times over countless hands of cards.
Bert was made of grit and grace, she was selfless, loving, generous, humble, practical-minded, and as steady as they come. She was a giver, beautiful inside and out, a light in this world.
Bert was preceded in death by her son, Stuart; parents, Martha and Albert Nelson; sister and best friend, Dorothy Sinn; brothers, Elmer, Leonard, Arthur "Bud" and Alvin Nelson; mother-in-law, Alberta (Eakins) Seaman; sister-in-law, Jean Groshart; nephews, Albert Sinn and Jeff Nelson; and nieces, Christy Maurer and baby Sara Jean Sinn.
Bert is survived by her husband, Jack; sisters, Sally Maurer and Chris "Aggie" Webb; children, Jacque (Hans) Gabler, Brad (Joanie) Seaman, and Sally (Scott) Stults; grandchildren, Robert (April) and Jack Ryan (Amanda) Johnson, James Bartell, and Cody Stults; great grandchildren, Bradley and Lexi Bartell, Riley Stroope, Dylan, Kyler, Brooks, and Anders Johnson, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
As per Bert's wishes, a private family service will occur in the spring. She will be laid to rest at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland next to her beloved son, Stuart and among generations of family members. We know Ivy will lovingly continue her aunt's sacred calling to be the caretaker of those who have come before. To celebrate Bert's life, spend quality time with your family, read a book, play a game of cards, serve others, and do good in this world. Memorials may be made to the Washakie County Library.
We are forever grateful for the Hospice workers that came in to help us take such tender, loving care of Mom. They were truly a blessing; beautiful souls committed to a holy calling.
Although we are heartbroken, we rest in God's promise: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life".
