Alden Pettitt Obituary

Alden R. Pettitt, 78, a resident of Edgewater for over 34 years and previously of Laurel, died peacefully at home after a lengthy illness on May 27.

He was born on May 23, 1931 in Vienna, VA and was educated in Washington, DC. He worked as a supervisor for PEPCO for 38 years. He continued to be active in PEPCO by coordinating the Lunch Bunch for retired PEPCO employees. Al served his country in the US Army, and he was a long standing member and Commander of the Sons of American Legion, Post 226. Every year he and his wife prepared backpacks and gave them to needy children on the first day of school. For each holiday they provided meals for many needy families. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

He was the beloved husband of the late Frances T. Pettitt; Father of Paul N. Pettitt, Lori A. Mackey, Sheri A. Jojokian, Debra L. Kasraei, and Anne M. Mangiafico; father-in-law of Karen Pettitt, Charles Mackey, Jack Jojokian, Saeid Kasraei and Michael Mangiafico; grandfather of Stephanie Jojokian, Christopher and Angie Mackey, James and Kristina Johnson, Travis Phipps, Sarah and L.J. Schreffler, Megan Mangiafico, Gabriel Coeuille, Victoria Pettitt and Anne and Brian Whiteford.

Friends are invited to Alden's Life Celebration at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Sunday May 31, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday June 1 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Edgewater, MD. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, Philanthropy Department, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
