Aleck Trawick

Dear Beth,

It has been many years since I worked with Aleck. I fondly remember my "Call to the Bar" party (over 30 years ago) which you kindly hosted at your lovely home. I am so sorry for your loss. Aleck was such a vibrant character that your hearts and home must be missing him. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your sons.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I believe I share some DNA with Aleck as a distant relation. If Lyle was his father and his grandmother was Ethel C. Trawick (nee Hall) who moved from Ontario to North Dakota to Truax SK, then we are related. My grandmother Sarah E. Cathro (nee Holland) considered Ethel to be one of her best friends both in N.D. and in SK. Ethel's mother was Melissa Gertrude Cathro. My grandmother lived in the next town down the line, Avonlea SK, and her husband H.A. Cathro and Ethel were cousins. I have traced the Cathros back to Dundee, Scotland. I went to law school with Al many years ago. I never seen or talked to him again but often thought about him. He was a great deal of fun before, during and after classes. His way with the "english language" was second to none - the folly of youth describing a gal as looking like" a tube of toothpaste squeezed from the top" and other colourful remarks. I note that Al was not only a great guy but also became a great human being. I leave the family with this thought: "Never a doubt that some day we shall wake and give what's left of love again."

It is with great saddness that I learned of Aleck's passing. I have fond memories of his tenacity and sense of humour. He taught me a great deal, including expressions I continue to use to this day. Ian - memories of those long ago days on Pasqua Street came flooding back as I read the notice for Aleck (or as Pat would have it - Alex). It was fun catching up with the two of you at Port Townsend and later seeing him around the club. We were also warmly welcomed to a festive party at the Trawick home soon after he and Beth moved to Victoria.
You will miss him - you were buddies for so long. Thinking of you -

I met Aleck in the late 1970s when he was with the Burstall law firm. Aleck was a true character and a fine gentleman. I was shocked to hear of his passing. I am so sorry. My deepest sympathy. My thoughts are with the Trawick family during this very difficult time.

Aleck was my friend and classmate at Sheldon-Williams Collegiate in Regina. As a teenager his concern for justice and respect for human rights was already evident. I am saddened by his passing and extend my deepest sympathy to his family.

Aleck was definitely one of a kind. It was my great pleasure to work with him for several years, during which time he earned my profound respect and liking. He definitely gave venting a new meaning, and I very much enjoyed his story telling. You will be missed, Aleck.

Beth, it has been a long time since we last met but I am sorry to read of Aleck's death. My husband, Alan Hunter, also a Calgary lawyer, thought a great deal of Aleck. Alan died in April of this year so I have an idea of what you are going through. If you would like to talk I am here.
