Alessandro RAUSA Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Alessandro Rausa on Sunday, January 24, 2016, aged 77 years. Beloved husband of Rosa for 59 years. Loving Papa of Maria Patrizia (Francesco Giacovazzo), Pino (Sandra Cundell), Margherita (Sean Finn), and Alex. Adored Nonno of Alexandra (Matt Lajeunesse), Kristia, Brandon (Mary), Lisa, Jenna (Brenden), Sandro, Jordan, Meagan and Morgan. Predeceased by his grandson Ryan Kerrigan (husband of Morgan Stebbings). Cherished great-grandfather of Ryley, Adriano and Kyla. He will be remembered by his brothers Nino and Germano (Giusi) and his sister Margherita (Mimmo Lagattolla). He will be missed by his many friends in Ottawa, Florida and Italy. Alla signora Rosa e tutta la famiglia Rausa.
Apprendo adesso con tantissimo dispiacere la scomparsa del Caro Sandro. Vi formuliamo le nostre più sentite condoglianze, vi siamo vicini con i nostri pensieri in questo tristissimo e dolorosissimo momento. Se ne va un grande uomo, un grande marito, padre, Nonno, fratello e amico. Mi macherai Caro Sandro tutte le volte che ritorneró ad Ottawa a Giovanni snack Bar, il nostro punto d'incontro. Ricorderó per sempre l'abbraccio affettuoso dell'Ultimo nostro incontro in Ottawa. Ti ricorderó per il grande amico che sei stato per me, un'amicizia cominciata sui campi di Calcio nel 1969, ben 47 anni fa. Oggi sarai li in cielo con gli angeli. Addio Caro Sandro,,,, till we meet again.

Rosa, Ghitta, Sean, Jordan, Meagan and Morgan, it's with a very heavy heart that I heard of Sandro's passing. He was such a wonderful man. I will never forget how much he made me feel part of his family during the trip to the condo in Florida and how he wouldn't dare let me pay for the gelato! Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.

To Maria and your family, my deepest condolences on the passing of your father. I remember the first time I spoke to your dad was back in the early 80s when I was writing a story on his playing years as a soccer player in Ottawa. I was given his name by a friend and while I had never met Sandro in person, on the phone he was helpful, patient and answered all my questions. I think he might have even invited me to his house in Barrhaven for a coffee. He was just that type of guy, friendly, courteous and a real gentleman even to someone who he had never met before. I didn't know it then but many years earlier I had worked with his wife Rosa at Arnone's, an Italian grocery store on Preston Street. And whenever I met them years afterwards I noticed what a wonderful couple they were, and how in love they were with each other. I know the power of true love because I too once had it, and I'm happy they did too.
