Alex R. Johns

Alex R. Johns, 82, of Westminster, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Transitions Healthcare Center in Sykesville.

Born Sept. 3, 1931, in Lynchburg, Va., he was the son of the late Charles and Gallie Johns. He was married to Jessie Faith Johns until her death in 2013.

He was an automobile mechanic at Miller Brothers in the Baltimore area. He was a foreman at Mrs. Ihrie's Potato Chip Factory in Baltimore. He enjoyed dancing, playing dominoes and cards, bowling and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are children Charles Richard Johns and wife Charlene, of Delaware; David Michael Johns and wife Debbie, of Arbutus; Debbie McGlaughlin and husband Kenneth, of Hanover, Pa.; and Cindy O'Connor and husband Gerard, of Littlestown, Pa.; sister Mary Josie Hientz, of Tennessee; brothers Fletcher Johns, of Virginia, and Lindburg Johns, of Catonsville; grandchildren Rick Jr., Chad, Shawn, David Jr., Dawn Riegert, Holly Hutchins, Dr. Douglas Deiss Jr., Nic Sigman, Wendy Peplinski, Jeremy O'Connor, Lee and Amber McGlaughlin; great-grandchildren Wyatte, Hayden, Graham, Ashley, Crystal, Jacob, Thomas, Jessica, Makenzie, Shawn Landon, Eliana, Cameron and Abigail Johns, Andrew Riegert, Madison Hutchins, Lillia Sanchez, Mary and Noah Peplinski; great-great-grandchildren Lucus, Logan, Cole and Loralei; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters Sarah Nuckles, Vonia Hicks, Molly Brahman, Christine Hicks, Irene Manus, Ola Mae Knuckles; and brothers Jack, Lester and Woodrow Johns.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of a service, 11 a.m. at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster. Private inurnment will be at Meadow Branch Cemetery in Westminster at a later date.
