In memory of
Joseph Manuto
June 21, 2012
A selfless dedicated man who brought spirit to those who serve in the military everywhere they encountered him.
And let us not forget that Alex himself was a Veteran as well.
Alex will be forever remembered, and perhaps there should be a monument so that young people can learn about this singularly dedicated man and his tireless work on behalf of service men and women.
Semper Fidelis that was Alex's legacy.
Respetfully
Joseph Manuto

A hell of a patriot. Nearly 30 years ago, when stationed at Camp Pendleton, the Flag Man had a justly earned reknown. I personally worked with Mr. Kapitanski on several ceromonies and I truly respected the man and the work that he did, for The Corps, For his Country. Lord knows when he got to Heaven, there was a flag display honoring his arrival therein. Semper Fi Flag Man, thank you forever for all you did.

Dear Allen and family, I have admired and respected from afar your father for many years. What a so needed example he set, especially for our young people.
May our Lord comfort you and your family in your loss.
I suspect Art is among those greeting your dad as he went to spend his Eternal Life with Jesus.
In His Love,

My deepest condolences to all the family.
Alex represented all that is great in this country and his patriotic enthusiasm and example has inspired countless numbers of Marines to give their best to their country and people like Alex.
Alex will always be with us because his spirit is the spirit of America.
Alex, John Phillip Sousa, and George M. Cohan (who composed "You're A Grand Old Flag") would have made a great team.

Alex, you have made such a large impact in my life. Having been with the marine Corps for well over 20 years now, both your flags and your spirit have been instrumental in every ceremony I have had the opportunity to be a part of. While we will miss you and the spirit of liberty that you so selflessly embraced, I now know that a huge array of flags will be awaiting me in heaven when my time comes.

I met Mr. Kapitanski when I was about 12 or 13,while in Girl Scouts with his daughter Emilyann. He along with one of the mothers drove a bunch of us Girl Scouts to Calico where we camped for the weekend.
As the years went by and I grew up, I would run into him, and he always remembered me. I ended up working for 2 local banks from 1975 until 2005, and whenever I saw him, I ALWAYS got up to give him a hug and ask about Emi. He was so proud of all of his children, and I felt honored to know him.
The last time I saw him was when this photo was taken, and I am so so glad now that I had my husband pull over so I could get out and once again say hi AND get my picture taken with him!
He was one of those people whom you thought would just live forever, and I not only felt honored to have known him, but also extremely proud to have known him. As long as I live, I will never see a flag without thinking of him.
God Bless all of you Emilyann...I'll never forget your dad.
Sincerely, Yogi aka

Alex, I don't think you realized how many lives you touched by your unconditional love for your country and fellow man. You were a great role model for our Carlsbad youth and thanks for helping embed the great memories that we all have from our participation in the Carlbad Youth Baseball program.

Alex Kapitanski brought his flag collection to every POW/MIA Service of Remembrance at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton since it began in 1990. The Flag Man would arrive early and set up at the memorial site, join me for coffee and breakfast, stay for the ceremony, and then take down his flags. He always had stories to tell to those in attendance. I was proud to know him and glad I was able to share that early morning time with him each year. He was a true patriot and loved his country - it always showed. The Flag Man will be missed, but like many others, I will be thinking of Alex whenever I see our flag flying. May he rest in peace!

My favorite hymn ends with –
‘…If the Army or the Navy should ever look on Heaven's scenes,
they will find the streets are guarded, by United States Marines....’
We all can now rest assured that those same streets will now be forever lined with Alex’s beloved flags…
God Bless, Flag Man...

I first met Alex when I was working at Food Mart in Oceanside. He had such a pride and LOVE for his country. I always enjoyed our talks. I have seen him a few times over the years and I was still awed by his dedication and hard work . Not only were his flag displays beautiful, but a reminder to everyone to love your country and that freedom is not free!! We have lost a great man.
my condolences to the family for their loss...treasure the memories.
We all will.
