Alex MACDONALD

Through all the years since I graduated from SFU (2000), I never forgot Alex MacDonald. I enjoyed his classes more than probably any other, his mischievous stories about public life, his grin and his cigar. I thought of him often, and today decided to google him, and was met with this sad news.
RIP, Alex. What a wonderful life you lived and a wonderful man you were.

He was my Professor and he became my friend. I will never forget our debates and good times. He was a class act and a politician who had friends on both sides of the aisle. He will be missed by those who knew him and never forgotten.

A true working class freedom-fighter, not afraid to tell the truth about how economies work and who for and at who's expense. RIP Alex. Your words will not be forgotten.

A delightful sense of humour, a bright mind, and an unrepentant exposer of what's right and wrong in the world. Alex, you're a man we'll never forget and always look up to.

A wonderful man with a great sense of humour. I am proud to have worked with him, editing two of his books.

Alex Macdonald was a superb human being and public servant. He was able to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds. His classes at SFU were always full. Alex taught with great humour and humanity. He will be greatly missed by all his former students.

Mr. MacDonald was the definition of what a good man should be.

A West-sider who was a true east ender. He and Dave made the plebes on the east side proud of who we were. Street fighters in their day.... Where are their heirs? Farewell, good and humble servant.

He made politics truly honourable

A good man and decent man who made an outstanding contribution to the social democratic movement, our party and our country.

As a child I remember attending, with my parents, many CCF meetings where Alex spoke. In 1956, when I was 16, he legalized my adoption free of charge as my adoptive parents could not afford to pay. I've thought of him and his kindness many times over the years. He made our world a better place.

Condolences to the family. I was lucky to have had Mr Macdonald as an instructor at S.F.U. In the 1990's.

I will forever remember Professor MacDonald as a teacher who made me believe in my ability to present a good argument. He entertained and taught us with good stories in our Pol Sci class at SFU. My condolences to his family.
