Alex Hewatt McGraw, Jr. died peacefully in Milton, GA on December 12, 2021, at the age of 74 after a ten-month battle with brain cancer. Alex was surrounded by the love and support of his wife, Barbara, and his four children at the time of his passing. While the family is terribly heartbroken, they are all at peace knowing that his suffering is over, and that heaven has gained a caring, strong and handsome angel to watch over them.
Alex is survived by his wife Barbara Lennon McGraw of Milton, GA and his sons Lex McGraw (wife Shelby McGraw) and Brandon McGraw (partner John Flynn) both of Atlanta, GA, and his daughters Mandi Nobis (husband Kevin Nobis) of Kennesaw, GA and Brittany McGraw (husband Jude Kromer) of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren – Hunter Nobis, Garrett McGraw, Austin Nobis, Saylor McGraw, Miller McGraw, Taylor Nobis and Everest Kromer as well as his sister, Rosemary McGraw Barfield. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alexander Hewatt McGraw, and Alice Ruth Miller McGraw formerly of Doerun, GA, his brother-in-law, Donald T. Barfield formerly of Albany, GA.
Alex was born in Moultrie, Georgia and raised in Doerun, Georgia by his loving parents, Hewatt and Alice Ruth McGraw. Growing up, Alex was an avid and skilled basketball player. Over the course of his high-school career he scored 2,297 points and was recognized as a Georgia Highschool All-American. In 2014, Alex was inducted into the Colquitt County Sports Hall of Fame. Alex was educated at Valdosta State University and enjoyed a career at Rich’s Department stores until he found his true passion, Real Estate. He married the love of his life, Barbara, in 1986 and they were happily married for 36 years. Many who knew Alex know that he loved his wife and children to no end. Alex loved physical fitness, horses, good food (oh how he loved to eat!), and the company of good friends. Alex will be remembered for many things, but those who knew him well knew him as a committed, hardworking, authentic, kind, and loyal man. He leaves a long and strong legacy.
While his family was most important in his life, Alex spent 19 years serving the real estate needs of families in the North Fulton, GA area. Alex was gifted in his ability to work with people and treated his clients like family… he considered each and every person he helped his friend. During Alex’s many years of real estate service, he helped over 500 families. He was perennially recognized in the top 10% of Harry Norman Company Wide, as well as part of the top 1% of agents in the North Fulton Harry Norman Office for the bulk of his career. Alex and his amazing team were named the “Harry Norman North Fulton Team of the Month” 36 times, and the “Harry Norman Team of the Month Company Wide” twice. Alex was a member of many business organizations including the Atlanta Realtors Association, North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, and the Forsyth Chamber of Commerce. Alex was awarded the Phoenix Award, which recognizes “10 years of Top Producer in The Atlanta Realtors Association,” and he was well on his way to earn the Silver Phoenix Award– which recognizes 25 years as Top Producer in the Atlanta Realtors Association.
Alex was an incredible man who touched so many people both personally and professionally. The family asks that you join them in celebrating his life this Thursday, December 16th at 10:00 AM at The Cathedral of Christ the King (2699 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, GA 30305).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Brain Tumor Association in Alex’s memory and honor. Throughout this journey, the McGraw family has been awed by the number of friends and family who have been impacted by brain cancer, specifically, glioblastoma. It is their hope that your contribution can help fund the research to find a cure.

To the McGraw Family,
I was so blessed to know Alex as our realtor. I met Alex in 2016 when we decided to sell our 1st home when our last of 4 children went off to college. This home was my DREAM home and Alex came over and looked at it and we talked at each room. He patiently stood and listen to a story in each room. When we listed the home their were many sleepless nights and cry’s along that journey and I remember calling him at 10:00 pm one night and telling him I couldn’t sell. The house was under contract at this point. Alex answered the while he was at dinner and told to common down It was going to be OK!! He said you will always have your memories. The one thing we had left in the house was a dining room table that sat 14 people it was the only thing left. I asked him Do you want it?? He said Barbara would kill him if he brought another item to store in the garage I laughed!! Alex & Wes listed our guest house 3 years later and they listed my condo just this pasted year!! When I found out Alex was sick I couldn’t believe this was a man who never looked his age or acted it. Alex will be greatly missed by my family my heart is broken for his. I’m extremely grateful to be able to call him my realtor and my friend. By the way my sister is a licensed realtor in Atlanta and I chose to use Alex because of that Awesome personality he had. My deepest condolences to Barbara and his family

Barbara and family ,I am so sorry for your loss. I am a classmate of Alex's from his home town of Doerun. Although we have been out of touch for many years, I always remember Alex as very studious, and he was an outstanding basketball player. He was kind to all. He had a sweet and loving family. I have fond memories of him from those days. I have been praying for him and family throughout his illness and will continue to pray for you all as you grieve your loss of Alex.
