Alex,

Remember a long time ago, when you were young? I told you that you looked like Bruce Lee and you asked, “Does that mean that I will go young?” I told you that you did not have my permission to go at a young age or else I would beat you up. I know that you are in Heaven now but you better behave because I will do what I promised. Maybe, by the time that I get there, I will go easy on you.

Love,

Uncle Peter

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to CPL Alex Andrew Nguyen our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Alex. And to Alex it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during Operation Enduring Freedom while serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. Alex, you are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot and a Marine warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace. Semper Fi.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Alex's family and loved ones.

Alex,

You've been an angel on Earth, and now, you are an angel in Heaven. You have carried the brunt of others' pain on your shoulders and you've been there when others needed you. It is now your turn to rest.

This is not a goodbye but just a temporary time for us to be apart, until we see each other again. I miss you dearly and love you very much.

God bless, babe.

Alex,

It seems like it was just yesterday that Uncle Clark and I picked you and your sister, Christina, up to spend the weekend with us. We always looked forward to having you kids over. We had so much fun together and enjoyed every moment we spent with you kids. You loved to play on Uncle Clark's computer and you were very good at it. As a toddler, you were such an angel. I remember taking you shopping and both you and your sister always refused to buy anything. You both said to me "Annie Lam, we don't need anything. You keep your money. We don't need new clothes or toys, but thank you! I used to think, how can children, at such a young age be so mature, loving, caring, unselfish, kind, sensitive and polite? But you both were, still are and I love you for that!

I am so glad I got to see you last fall in Denver. You've grown to be such an intelligent, loving, caring, wonderful and responsible young man. I am so proud of who you've become! I can't believe life was so short for you here on earth but I know God has his plans - to bring you home to heaven and be with him. Your life here on earth is completed. You've done your duty and it's time for you to go home. I am accepting it. It's hard for all of us, especially, your mom, dad, sisters and brother to know that they and we will not see you again on earth. But, I know we'll see you in heaven. I know you're in heaven watching over your parents, sisters and brother right now and I am happy for them. Like your Annie Tung said, we now know there is an angel name Alex in heaven that's watching over us.

I love you dearly my little baby nephew. I miss you and can't imagine that we won't get to see your loving face and that infectious smile again, but I am happy that you're in heaven with God right now. You will forever be in my mind and I will hold you dearly in a special place in my heart. Until we see each other again, I love you! May God bless you, my dear Alex!

In memory of Alex:

Alex, your passion for purity is as clear as sunlight, like a new born just arriving, a clear sky after darkness from a storm, sacred heart of the VIRGIN MARY and BLOOD of our LORD, JESUS CHRIST.

Alex, your sunlight continues to light my way. It brightens my days and warms my nights. It brings smiles to my face and comforts my heart.

Alex, your passion for goodness and compassion helps me to clarify my actions, allows me to care more for others and brings me peace.

Alex, your acts of kindness inspires me. It brightens my days and warms my nights. It brings smiles to my face and comforts my heart.

Alex, your passion for beauty includes all things God has given us, like the raindrops, clear blue skies, beautiful rainbow, flower blossoms in the fields, birds singing, green forests, majestic mountains, the big blue and wide ocean, the falling leaves, and snowflakes in the wind.

ALEX, YOUR PURITY LIVES WITHIN ME.

It brightens my days and warms my nights.

It brings smiles to my face and comforts my heart.

Peace be with you, son.

Love always,

Dad

Alex, my Brother, my Friend, my colleague, my partner in crime, I was moved by your talent, your intelligence, your courage, your compassion, your wit ... and your ability to eat more bowls of Coco Puffs in one sitting than I thought humanly possible. Giggity. Be at peace, little brother.

Alex, you were a gift to us on earth. Losing you at such a youthful age is a painful reminder of what might have been but I know that God is blessing you now and forevermore, holding you in his loving, peaceful and comforting embrace. I now know an angel in heaven named Cuey and I love you.
