Alex N. Shukin Alexeij Nikolai Shukin died peacefully on 15 July 2009 after a 13 year battle with prostate cancer. Born on 21 December 1930 on his grandparents' (Alexeij Shukin and Lusha (Dergousoff) homestead near Buchanan, Saskatchewan, Alex may have been best known as a northern outfitter; however, throughout his life he wore many hats. He was a farmer, businessman, mayor, musician, fisherman, curler, and pilot. His larger than life, colorful persona will be missed by his family and many friends. For Alex, every day was a good day! He lived life to the fullest, making the most of every unique opportunity. He was preceded in death by his father, Nick; mother, Molly (Salikin); sister, Molly Popoff (Peter); brother, Nick (Sylvia); son, Wayne; and nephews Grant Shukin, Nicholas Popoff. He is survived by his loving wife and friend, Victorine (Laliberte) and their daughter Suzanne Petryshyn (Trever) and two granddaughters Alexa, Molly; by his first love and wife of 23 years, Gene (Yaremko) and their four daughters Karen Semchuk, Barbara Baker (Rick), Debora Russell, Shelley Sanders (Ed); two sons, Brian and Dana (Harvey), Darcy and Natalie (Blouin); 11 grandchildren, Ryshanna (Baker) Bellisle (Achilles), Cassandra (Baker) Neufeld (Sheldon), Anastasia Hendrickx, Alyssan (Semchuk) Gauthier (Kyler), Angela (Hendrickx) Shaw (Adam), Kathryn Shukin, Sandra Shukin, Tyler Russell, Gabrielle Shukin, Nikita Shukin, Mikiel Shukin; and six great grandchildren (Austin Shanks, Brooklynn Bellisle, Isaac Shaw, Carter Shaw, Justin Bellisle, Broderick Shukin); and his nephews, Lawrence Popoff, Nicholas Shukin, James Shukin; nieces, Katherine Shukin, Caroline (Shukin) Moran, Loretta (Shukin) Magnusson; and stepchildren, Karen (Edquist) Roy, Eldin Edquist (Carol Buffin); and their families. At Alex's request, a memorial service will not be held. In lieu of flowers we invite you to make a donation to the charity of your choice.
