Wow, very sad to have come across this page. Mr. Batey, or Chip as we knew him was my neighbor, and would often invite my father and myself down to his basement to share an ice tea and watch his trains steam away. I recall one Christmas season where he offered to drive us in his old Toyota to the store where he buys his trains, it was a wonderful experience and really peaked my interest. I soon got a train set because of Chip and I still have the train car he gifted me on Christmas. Ge always had cool trains and Knick knacks that I wanted. He was a kind and quiet man who kept to himself, but had a heart of gold. I further recall Mrs. Gardener, an elderly lady who lived across the street from us recounting the stories of how Chip would help her in his childhood. Now they are both gone, their houses have been demolished and converted in to multi family homes and the block does not look the same, but thankfully I am blessed with the memories of Mr. Batey and 157th Street. God bless and may your soul dwell in the most high places, where the train tracks are endless.

Big Al, you will be missed. I enjoyed talking to you about your passion about trains and wrestling. As Jack Fowler, said " May Jesus be your tag team partner"
