Alexander Loftus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 1, 2024.
Alexander Michael Loftus, 41, of Kingshill, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, passed away on October 25, 2024. Alex was born on September 26, 1983 in Fort Dodge, IA, but returned to St. Croix shortly after his birth. Alex was the son of Noel Loftus and Diane Loftus (Hovland).

Alex graduated from Good Hope School in 2001. Alex went on to attend Northern Illinois University, earning a B.S. in Physics and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering.

Alex married Andrea (Andi) Loftus (Teter) on December 10, 2011 in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. At the time of his death, Alex and Andi had been together for over 20 years. Alex and Andi had a son, Theodore (Teddy) Loftus, on 11/29/22.

Alex worked at the Glen Ellyn Art Theater for fifteen years. In 2021 he returned to St. Croix after the death of his father to work at the family's businesses, Tropical Plumbing and Floor Specialists.

Alex loved all things sci-fi and fantasy. Alex enjoyed playing Dungeons and Dragons, and spent a lot of happy hours creating unique campaigns for his group. Alex loved playing video games, particularly RPGs and MMRPGs. His favorite franchises were Final Fantasy and Baulders Gate, but in his college years he spent many hours playing World of Warcraft. Alex loved movies, and while working at the theater enjoyed talking with customers about the current films. While Alex loved a wide variety of genres of film, The Cutting Edge and The American President remained his favorite films of all time. Alex enjoyed reading and even named his dog Detective Karrin Murphy after a character in his favorite book series, the Dresden Files. Alex loved to build Lego sets, and looked forward to sharing his love of Lego with Teddy. Above all, Alex loved being a father.

Alex's loved ones include his wife, Andrea (Andi) Loftus; son, Theodore (Teddy) Loftus; mother, Diane Loftus (Hovland); sister, Nicole (Benjamin) Loftus; nephew, Charles Wojtas; niece, Hailey Wojtas; niece, Lily Hebbard (Garner); best friend, Tim (Ana) Pitts; and his extended family of aunts and cousins in Illinois- the Loftus, White, and Danforth families.

Memorial services will be held on St. Croix and in Illinois at a later date.

I can feel all the love put into this. My brother was so happy when he lived in Chicago and was close to his family that supported him and always watched his back. I remember all the summer vacations and Christmas trips that would bring everyone together. I know how much he loved you guys and I loved him too. I miss you so much big bro.

My condolences to his family, Alex was the reason my son Luis Nouel learned to play tennis. His mom Diane asked me if I could enroll him in tennis lessons at Buccaneer Hotel so Alex could be motivated to learned to play. My son was his school friend. After class Diane would take him to her home in east end were I would go after work (People´s Drugstore) to get him. I think they were second graders.
