My deepest condolences on the passing of your husband, father, and grandfather. I worked with Alex on the evening news at CBC Edmonton in the 70's. I will always remember him as a warm and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humour. I admired his professionalism and learned a great from deal from him. Alex will not be forgotten by those whose lives he touched.

Alex's Family,
Our sympathy on the loss of your husband, fayjer and grandfather. Alex was very special. He was our guest speaker at Remembrance Day Banquet at Westlock at the time of his documentary about his W.W. 2 expieriences and his retirment as the news anchor. That was a very special time for the vets and greatly appreciated to have Alex speak. Alex was special in a special group of people who expierienced the worst of times and the best of times.
Our Deepest sympathy,
Direen & Doug Rice,
Westlock, Alberta.

To Hilda and family,
It was with sad hearts we learned of the death of Alex. We were neighbours in Fulton Place until we moved to Whitecourt in 1974 and always enjoyed our visits with the Moirs. Sean was present at David's birthdays in the summer.
We extend our sincere sympathies and hope you find comfort and peace in your memories.

My sincere sympanthies to you, Hilda and to the Moir 'boys'. I had a very special relationship with Alex and will miss him greatly. Shortly after I joined the CBC, I had the rare opportunity of working together, one-on-one with Alex and immediately discovered what a kind and gentle soul he was. Although I left the CBC a few short years later, we remained friends for the remaining 20+ years. It saddens me greatly that I won't experience the exhileration that followed instantly when I heard that Alex had stopped by for a coffee and a chat. A loving and peaceful soul has arrived in Heaven.

Wayne and brothers,
We shared the same alley and playground for many years growing up in Fulton Place.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. He was always respectful of others, even us kids when we were probably annoying the heck out of him.

To Wayne and the Moir family,

Please accept our condolences on the passing of your father. His professional approach and presentation in broadcasting served as an inspiration and a model for others and an example of an individual who cared about his family and community. The legacy of family is one he can most surely be proud of.

Our deepest sympathies in your loss! None of you know us but we first were aware of Alex Moir as our newsman. Then, upon moving to Sherwood Park a few years ago we realized he and his dear wife lived somewhere close by. We have spoken on the street and in front of our home as they did their daily walks. Just recently I realized we hadn't seen Alex or Hilda for some time and found myself wondering about them. Alex will most be remembered by those who came to 'know' him through television or casual encounters for his gentle and genuine ways, a kind man, who lovingly cared for his wife also. There was an instant connection to this kind soul and he felt more like family! That just speaks to the kind of man he was! Precious memories of them both! Your loss will be great but I trust also that you will be blessed by the fond memories you have of someone so precious! God bless you all at this time!

To Hilda and the Moir family.
We were very sorry to get the news of Alex's passing. He truely was a unique character with a wit and story telling ability all his own. It was a pleasure getting to know him when he and Hilda resided in Chilliwack, B.C. He always took time to look us up, when passing through, after moving back to Edmonton and that was greatly appreciated. We wish we could be with you to celebrate his well-lived life, and our thoughts are with you as you face the days ahead.

Alex, we will miss you. You have been a kind and good friend over the years ever since we met the very first day at CBC radio in 1961. It was you who got me started in my new country with your kind help and advice in so many area's.

Alex was our Walter Cronkite. A kind gentle man that made the Newscasts that he read more like hearing stories from a trusted uncle or father. I had the privilege to work with him over the years at CBC. The CBC hasn't been the same since he retired. His honesty and integrity will be missed. A true professional.

Sincere condolences to Hilda and the Moir family. I had the great pleasure of working with Alex at CBC Edmonton, in the late 1970s, early '80s, at the start of my own career in broadcasting. He was a lovely, fun, and kind gentleman, who set a great standard for everyone in the industry and in life. I certainly missed him over the years and will continue to do so now. Take care!

Alex Moir was a wonderful human being and a real professional who brought a personal touch to the news. When he talked about his wartime experiences and his visit to Normandy, its was truly awesome. All of us have fond memories and celebrate his life. I know his Scottish roots very well and some of his ancestry. God bless.
