Alexandra "Alex" Margaret Frizzell, beloved granddaughter, daughter, niece, sister, and girlfriend passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 in Chicago. She was 21.
Alex was born May 15, 1991 in Birmingham, Alabama, the middle of Frizzell's five children. She resiliently competed against her older siblings, Erin and Will on her big wheel as a determined "big girl".
A prodigy, she matured at a young age and guided a group, known as HITA to Chile at age 9, acting as the peso specialist. She was devoted to improving the world and encouraged Chile's transition to a democracy, participated in South Africa's fight for AIDS treatment and worked passionately for the Idaho Conservation League.
She was a Senior at the University of Chicago and an Honor student in Economics. Her future was filled with visits to see her brother in Arkansas, a vacation with her college-mates in Jamaica, spending time with her boyfriend, and a year abroad in Peru performing medical volunteer work.
Alex's sense of humor, calming voice, insightful advice, and love of life were well-known to all who knew her. She loved animals, especially her cat, Bandit.
She is preceded in death by her grandfathers, Rafe Andrews and Bill Frizzell; grandmother and namesake, Margaret Frizzell; and uncle, Bill Hayes. She is survived by her loving boyfriend, Gabe; uncles, Holt, Block, J.P., and Paul; aunts, Leigh, Julie, Marty, Adrienne, and Marcia; cousins, Steve, Bill, Rafe, Carrie, Kirsten, Rachel, Sarah, Janelle, Cameron, and Elizabeth; sisters, Erin and Anna; brothers, Will and Jon; mother and father, Barb and Tyler, and grandmother, Bobbie. We will always love you and are blessed to have known your kind person.
Memorial services will be Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Cathedral,518 N. 8th Street, Boise.
In memory of Alex, please make donations to the Idaho Conservation League or the Idaho Humane Society. Arrangements in Idaho are by Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel.

I was blown away by Alex when I met her two years ago through a research project on enhanced geothermal systems. Her enthusiasm for bringing environmental solutions to life was inspirational and her love of Boise and the outdoors was beautiful. Driven, ambitious, poised, grounded, and caring, Alex had so many talents and so much to offer the world and I will always admire her.
