Alexandra Landry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 10, 2023.
With great sorrow, the Scothorn and Landry families announce the passing of their beloved Alex.

Alexandra Danielle Landry, 29, died unexpectedly on April 05, 2023, at a New Bedford Hospital in Massachusetts. Alex was born and raised in Lake Charles, LA, and was a graduate of Westlake High School and McNeese State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. At the time of her death, she was completing her Master's degree in Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

From an early age, Alex was a dedicated thespian and member of The Lake Charles Children's Theatre Company, the Westlake High School theater group, and performed in several plays at MSU. Alex discovered her love of teaching during the summers of her middle and high school years while teaching acting to children through the Summer Arts Camp.

Alex had a lively adventurous spirit, delightful humor, and exceptional artistic talent. She developed a love for art, books, animals and writing at an early age, often combining all of them to create funny characters with illustrated stories. Alex always carried a journal or sketchbook. She enjoyed hanging out at coffee shops and bars with her friends but didn't mind going out alone because she could strike up a conversation with just about anyone and turn a cocktail napkin into a work of art. Many strangers she encountered walked away with a new friend and an amazing portrait of themselves. Most of her days were devoted to oil painting, creating beautiful works of fine art on large canvases in her studio at the Star Store Campus in Downtown New Bedford. She loved living in the heart of the city, commuting on foot, taking in the sites, and embracing all the random, unique people and events she encountered along her way.

Alexandra was predeceased by her father, Daniel Aaron Landry Jr., and grandparents Elmeda Ann Brown, Raymond L. Simmons, and Marilyn Cerniglia Turman. She is survived by her loving family, parents Stacey Christina and Robert Joseph Scothorn of Alexandria, LA, brother Raymond Zachary Brown of Lake Charles, LA, grandparents Dan and Nettie Landry (Nonnie and Poppy) of Moss Bluff LA, grandmother Maggie McGuffee (Gree) of Katy, Tx, grandfather Mark Louis Morrison of Mesa Az, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A candlelight vigil will be held Monday night April 10, at 8 pm on the campus of UMass Dartmouth, on the quad, in front of the Claire T. Carney Library.

A service of remembrance in Lake Charles, Louisiana will be announced at a later date.

Sorry I'm so late Alex, like always lol. We went to elementary, middle, and high school together, so finding out about your passing was quite a shock to me. I guess now is better than never to say something. I'm sorry girl, I should have said something sooner, but I'm here saying it now. It's never goodbye, but always see you later.

She was one of the best cousins I had ever had and when I heard about her death I was shook and sad I cried so hard my eyes hurt but I do know that she is in a much better place that will treat her with respect, and Grace. You will all ways be in my heart and I will all ways love you and be proud on what you have accomplished in your life! I love you Alex!

You´ve been a light in our lives from birth when you stapled your tiny fingers around Poppy´s thumb. We thank GOD for giving you to us for the time we had. I can see you surrounded by Angels assisting you to teach the children to paint beautiful portraits of their loved ones! We miss you and love you, dear sweet Alex!

I didn´t know Alex as well as I would have liked but the brief time I spent with her was a blast. She was so talented, funny, and full of life. She came over my house one time and my cat who is afraid of pretty much everyone took an instant liking to her. That´s the kind of person Alex was. She was such a kind and beautiful soul.

Christy, I'm remembering the first time we and our girls met in the elevator at the Children´s Theatre Company. Alex and Ciaara quickly became friends.
Words can not express how my heart feels at this time. Just know that she will always be remembered. We'll be praying for you and your family .

It was a joy to watch you grow up. Not shaping or guiding you, just watching you become you. You are such a beautiful light to so many. Yes, I´ll miss you terribly, but I will always love and remember you as my sweet Alex. ALWAYS!!!
