Alexis Ashley Ehlers

Our beautiful daughter and sister, Alexis Ashley Ehlers "Lexi or BooBoo" passed away on August 13, 2017. She was born January 4, 1989, and lived most of her life here in Juneau. Alexis was from the Whalehouse of Klukwan and Gaanuxtedi' Raven Woodworm clan. She was given the Tlingit name Yeix'NaWat'Kla, after her grandmother, Elsie L. Brown.

She was predeceased by her son, Douglas Bradford Ost, brother Anton Ehlers, uncle David Verdol, aunt Anita Brown Verdol, paternal grandparents Beverly and Douglas Coull, and maternal grandfather Austin H. Brown.

Alexis is survived by father, Willis Eugene Ehlers, mother Anna Brown Ehlers, sister Marie Anshawatke Ehlers, brother Willis Austin Ehlers, grandmother Elsie L. Brown, Dianna Harper (Brian), Austin L. Brown (Alice), William Brown, Randall Brown, Amelia Brown (Dennis Brockman), Christina Maddox (John), Nathan Jackson (Dory), Debbie Hampel (Dennis), Barry Ehlers, Vickie Rahm (Brian), BeBe Polhill (Smitty) and Joe Ehlers (Robin). Alexis is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alexis graduated from the Yaakoosge Daakahidi Alternative High School. She enjoyed working and took pride in being a productive and well respected employee wherever she worked. She was last employed as an Office Assistant II in the Payroll Section for the State Department of Administration.

Alexis had a real passion for reading from an eclectic range of authors and topics. Once she found an author she liked, she would read everything by that author. She was an enthusiastic gardener, as well. But her number one passion was baking. Alexis was a naturally gifted cook and creative baker. She loved to surprise family, friends and coworkers with her wonderful baked goods and planned to open a specialty bakery.
Alexis was very proud of her Tlingit heritage. She spent many summers at the Loot Kwaan Culture camp. Her Grandpa Austin would "shanghai" the whole family each summer to go to fish camp trips on the Cooper River and to Klukwan to prepare smoked and dried sockeye. From an early age Alexis loved helping her mother with her Chilkat weaving

Alexis' humanity and kindness was very much instilled by her god parents Bernie and Susan Knighton. The Knighton's expanded her horizons with travel to every corner of the country. Alexis was especially close to her father – he was her guiding light. Many days after work, she would go on hikes with her dad and her beloved uncle, Bill McCauley. Alexis was very family oriented and enjoyed playing, dancing and singing with her nieces and nephews. Alexis also looked forward to the Ehlers' family reunions in Minnesota.

Alexis's 40 day party will be held Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the Tlingit Haida Community Center, 3235 Hospital Drive, at 12 pm to 3 pm.
