Alfonso Al Apodaca

Alfonso (Al) Apodaca, Jr. died on April 6, 2022 after complications from a hemorrhagic stroke at the age of 84. Al was born on August 21, 1937 in Ysleta, TX to Alfonso Apodaca, Sr., and Maria del Refugio (Herrera) Apodaca. Al grew up in Ysleta, TX graduating from Ysleta High School in 1956. He attended the University of Texas at El Paso graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in accounting and minoring in finance. Al joined the Navy, serving very proudly from 1957 to 1959, retiring in October 1987 from the U.S. Naval Reserves after 26 years. He then retired from the U.S. Federal Service after 30 years, serving as an accountant from 1964 to 1994. Al served on the Plano ISD Special Education Program for 3 years, 2 years as chairperson. He was also Vice President, U.S. Military, serving as Comptroller for the DFW chapter. Al was a member of the Association of Governmental Accountants for the Kansas City, MO chapter and then the DFW chapter. Al served as a facilitator in the Grief Process for Separated, Divorced and Widowed Program for the Catholic Church of the Dallas area from 1987 to 1994. It was at this program that Al met Marian and after several group meetings and group dinners he asked Marian for a date. Al is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Frances Snellen; brother, Robert Apodaca; and first wife Maria Luisa Apodaca. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marian Baker Apodaca; sister, Carmen Murillo (Rodolfo) and brother Richard Apodaca (Maria Elena); daughter Yolanda Apodaca-Rogers (Kelly Rogers) of Melbourne, FL; daughter Yvonne Apodaca Burns (Michael) of Ft. Worth, TX; son Alfonso Apodaca, III (Melissa) of Dallas, TX; step daughters, Michele Bach and Nicole Lang; grandchildren: Libby Apodaca; Sam Burns; Katie Burns; Zoe Apodaca; Sean Rogers; and Wesley Lang; nieces and nephews: Kathy Cox, Andrew Snellen, James Snellen, Becky Snellen, Betsy Sedeno, Rodolfo Murillo Jr., Rosemarie Guerrero, Melinda Murillo, Raquel Guerra and Robert Apodaca Jr. Al always entertained with stories of how he grew up, also helping the family at his father's bar and numerous stories about his military career and traveling the world. He loved listening to symphony music on his record player. He enjoyed cooking Mexican food, Italian food, and his delicious salsa! And he never missed an episode of his favorite Blue Bloods and Young Sheldon. Rest in peace beloved Al. A Catholic Mass to be held on May 14, 2022 at 9am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Richardson, TX. A military service was held Monday, April 18, 2022 at the DFW Cemetery.
