Alfonzie N. "Big Al" McKinney

ALFONZIE N. "BIG AL" McKINNEY, 66, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at home. He was born in Birmingham, Ala., and moved to Fort Wayne in 1955. He retired in 1998, as a Heavy Equipment Operator from Thorleif-Larsen and had worked at Gardiner Masonry and Crown Construction Co. Al was preceded in death by a stepson, Rex Boykin, parents, Frank and Luesindia McKinney, sisters, Pauline Davidson, Bessie Cooper and Eulah McKinney. Surviving are his wife, Lois; sons, Daniel McKinney and Michael McKinney, all of Fort Wayne, Mitchell (Cindy) McKinney of Decatur; daughters, Meredith (Leslie) Desroches of Plainfield and Brenda McKinney-Green of Fort Wayne; brothers, William (Bertha) McKinney of Clinton Twp., Mich., Roy McKinney and Joe (Alice) McKinney of Baltimore, Md., Eddie (Sarah) McKinney of Spartanburg, S.C.; sisters, Anner Williams, Beverly McGee, both of Anderson, and Catherine (William) Prowell of Birmingham; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral mass is 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1122 S. Clinton St., with calling one hour before service.
