FITCHBURG -- Alfred Clayton, 82, of Fitchburg, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010, in his home with his loving family by his side.

Alfred was born in England, on October 16, 1927, son of the late Alfred and Catherine (Wales) Clayton.

Mr. Clayton served in the RAF during World War II.

He worked for Cammell Lairds Shipyard in Liverpool, and later for the Dillon Boiler Company in Fitchburg for many years.

Besides his loving wife of 60 years, Bridget (Quill) Clayton, he leaves a son, Alfred "Paul" Clayton of Fitchburg; four daughters, Marilyn Chabot and her husband, Richard of Fitchburg, Susan LeBlanc and her husband, Dennis of Fitchburg, Annette Banahan and her husband, Thomas of Ashburnham, Beverly Mathieu and her companion, Will Ahearn; three sisters, Eileen Crawford, Elizabeth Davis, and Chrissy Johnson; 12 grandchildren; and his grand dog, Cooper.

Alfred was predeceased by his three sisters, Violet, Esther, and Emily, all of England, and his two brothers, William and Valentin Clayton, both of England.

CLAYTON -- The funeral service will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, on Monday, October 4, 2010, at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday, October 3, 2010 from 4:00-7:00 P.M.
