Alfred Edsel Elkins Jr., age 84, passed away on June 29, 2025, in Greenville, South Carolina, after a long illness. Born and raised in Mount Hope, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Alfred Edsel Elkins and Beulah Lay Crawford.

Known to many as "Ed," he attended Mt. Hope High School, where he played tuba in the school band. Following graduation, he served three years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War era, stationed in Turkey. After his military service, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marshall University in Huntington, WV.

Ed dedicated much of his career to the U.S. Treasury Department, supporting Savings Bond transactions-first in Chicago, Illinois, and later in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Outside of work, he enjoyed reading, golf, and bowling, and in retirement, developed a deep interest in genealogy. At the end of his life, he enjoyed singing old songs - https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvvcxXwfQNlH8SOBx-0UoSGeDR_u_jMkB&si=gkTt3_DCj8D481KI.

He is survived by his children, Todd Elkins and Katrina Dickason; granddaughter, Valerie Anne (Elder) Stockdale; great-grandson, Bennett Lee Stockdale; sister, Alicia Lee Underwood; and brother, Pete Darnall. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Alfred "Earl" Elkins.

A short graveside service and interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on August 7, 2025, at Turley Cemetery on Pea Ridge Road and Patrick Street, Oak Hill, WV.
