CRYSTAL LAKE - Alfred E. Krause Sr., 89, of Crystal Lake, died Friday, July 2, 2004, at Fair Oaks Health Care Center in Crystal Lake.
He was born June 1, 1915, in Chicago, to Max and Lillian (Schuth) Krause. On Feb. 13, 1948, he married Carol E. Ziegelmeier in Chicago.
During World War II, he worked 18 hours a day building speakers for submarines. He was one of the last milk deliverymen in Chicago. For 10 years, he operated the near-north suburban franchise for Pepperidge Farm cookies. After his retirement, he worked for nearly 10 years recording books for the blind and as a master gardener for an assisted living complex in Skokie. In Crystal Lake, he was active at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, as well as The Salvation Army Golden Diners.
Survivors include a son, Alfred (Judith) Krause Jr. of Lake in the Hills; a brother, Melvin (Eileen) Krause of Bedford, England; seven nieces and nephews, Gwen (Jim) McBeth of Wood Dale, Wendy (Tom) Poblocki of Chicago, Arthur (Elaine) Krause of McHenry, Terree (Jim) Flowers of Texas, Wayne Wilkans of Wisconsin, Rick Krause, and Susan (Peter) Hammond of Bedford, England.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1994; three sisters, Mabel Sims, Ethel Wiebrecht and June Wilkans; and two brothers, Arthur and Elmer Krause.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Querhammer & amp; Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 932 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake. The Rev. Paul Schuth will officiate.
Interment will be in Windridge Memorial Park in Cary.
Memorial contributions in his name to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church to benefit the preschool education fund would be appreciated.
