Alfred STANTON Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 30, 2002.
STANTON _ Alfred (Curly) Clarence 1921 - 2002 Al passed away peacefully at home in Summerland on the morning of November 28, 2002 at the age of 81, surrounded by his loving family. He fought a short but hard battle with lung cancer. Dad had a distinguished World War II military career with the Canadian army from 1941 to 1945 serving in Italy, Belgium and Holland with the 89-109th Lanark and Renfrew Regiment. He met and married his wife Doreen, in Worthing, England during the war. When Al returned to Canada, he started farming in the Cremona area, after which he went on to have a respected and loyal career with the Alberta Correctional Services from 1957 to 1984, retiring as Assistant Regional Director. Dad and Mum retired to Summerland, BC where he was able to enjoy his love of horses. It was here that he gained a reputation for his handling and training of his "harem" as his family used to call his stable of horses. In 1999, he was predeceased by his loving wife Doreen, for whom he was a dedicated caregiver during her own cancer illness. He is survived by his younger brother Warren of Red Deer; his much loved and devoted children, Jane Blamire (Herb) of Kelowna, Val Keller (Larry) of Calgary, Marilyn Stanton (Marcus) of San Francisco, and Mark Stanton (Celine) of France; his beloved grandchildren, Chris, Jenna, Shelley, Steven, Jeremey, Josh, and Emma; and great-grandchildren, Jesse, Cassidy, Bryce, and newborn Alicia. The family greatly appreciates the kindness and excellent medical care shown Dad by Dr. Milt Stevenson, the many specialists, and the staff on 4B at KGH as well, Dr. Venkatamaran and the staff of Summerland Palliative Care. Your knowledge and compassion made nursing Dad at home an easier task for us all. Thank you. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Summerland at 2:00 p.m. on December 4, 2002. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Al's name to the Canadian Cancer Society. "Dad, you will be so deeply missed, as you are the cement that held us together. We love you very much." 356844
