Alice Grillo Obituary

Alice Rose (Clark) Grillo, 92, a resident of the Presbyterian Home and formerly of Sunset Avenue, Utica, died October 11, 2012 at the home. She was born February 22, 1920 in Camden, NY daughter of the late Peter and Theresa Donnelly Clark and attended Main Street School in Whitesboro. She married Anthony L. Grillo on November 24, 1938 in St. Paul's Catholic Church, Whitesboro. As a young girl Alice was employed at Horrocks-Ibbotson Company. Later in her life she was employed by the Utica School System as a Teaching Assistant at both Sunset and Kernan schools working with special education students, a job that she truly loved. She also served as a volunteer for ARC in Washington Mills. Alice was a member of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes for over 70 years. Alice is survived by her two sons Richard and his wife Phyllis of New Hartford and Donald and his wife Linda of Auburn, NY, three granddaughters and three grandsons, Amy (Nicola) Pizzoli, Bologna, Italy, Stacey (Michael) Andrews, Pittsford, NY, Jill (Jeffrey) Sorensen, Philadelphia, PA, Jeffrey (Marta) Grillo, Cherry Hill, NJ, Brendan Grillo, Auburn, NY, and Brian (Ariel) Grillo, Monmouth Junction, NJ. Alice and Tony played a prominent role in the daily lives of their grandchildren. Also surviving are nine great grandchildren, Andrew Anthony and Grace Alice Pizzoli; Sofia Rose, Jack and Benjamin Andrews; Leo Anthony and Zoe Sorensen; Matthew and Nicolas Grillo; also Reagan Munroe, Sarah Christopher, Michael Christopher and Evelyn Fazekas. Alice was predeceased by her loving husband Anthony on May 19, 2001 and eight brothers and sisters, Mary, Katherine, Helena, Edward, Peter, Louis, Florence and Leo. Alice took great comfort in knowing that her family and good friends were always there with her through out her life. She considered her grandchildren and great grandchildren special blessings who brought her great joy. The family would like to thank the staff at the Presbyterian Home especially those in Birch Wing and Nurse Practitioner Phyllis Christopher for their compassion and care of Alice during her time with them. The funeral will be on Monday at 9:30 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
