Alice Marie Hamsher Hagerstown - Marie Hamsher, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on January 13th at the age of 99 and 7 months. Born June 17, 1923 in Waynesboro, PA, Alice was the 12th child of 17 children born to Ira Benton and Ella Elizabeth(Newcomer) Fahrney.

She spoke lovingly of her large family and her life on the farm. Alice was employed as a skilled seamstress and in her younger life as a talented performing skater. Alice was an amazing woman who always looked for the best in everyone. She enjoyed games, card playing, feeding the birds, and spending time with her family. Her greatest wish was for her daughters to be happy and be well provided for. Alice was quick witted, humorous, and her positivity was apparent to all who knew her. Alice is survived by her daughters, Joan M. Wetzel and Sue E. Hoover (John T. Jr), both of Hagerstown, grandchildren,

Angela C. Wetzel Garrett and fiance Jeffrey Heflin of Whitefish, MT, John T. Hoover,III (Jenifer), Andrew R. Hoover (Miranda), both of Jackson, WY, great-grandchildren, Skyler Garrett, Langley, Larson, Arlen and Adley Hoover. She is also survived by 39 nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years William W. Hamsher, and her son-in-law, Gary Wetzel. Eleven sisters and five brother predeceased her. Alice was the last surviving member of her generation. As per Alice's wishes a private graveside service will be held on Tues., January 24th at Rest Haven Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sat., June 17th, which would have been Alice's 100th birthday. Alice loved her church family, so In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Paramount Brethren In Christ Church, 19106 Longmeadow Rd., Hagerstown, MD.
