Alice Marie Hardy

Alice Marie Hardy, age 80, peacefully departed from the land of the living on November 7, 2023, in Charlston, SC. She was born on November 26, 1942, in Harrington, DE, a testament to the glorious creation of God, to the late Benjamin Franklin Gray, Sr., and Leona Baynard-Gray-Coverdale.

Alice's life was a testament to the virtues of humility, gratitude, and respect for all of God's creation. She exemplified these qualities in her kind caring, loving, interactions with others, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Her departure leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Alice is survived by her devoted son, (TC)Columbus Hardy, Jr.(Paula) of Troutdale, Virginia, and her cherished daughters, Charlette (David) Banks of Moncks Corner, SC and Justina (Tina) Hardy of Dover, DE. Her sisters, Betty (Sister) (Melvin)Gray-Smith of Rochester, NY, Frieda Gray of Baltimore, MD, Charlotte (Woody) Coverdale of Frederica, DE, her brothers, Haywood (Bud) Gray of Harrington, DE and Charles (Little)Coverdale Jr of Atlanta, GA, stand as a testament to the strong bonds of family that Alice held dear. She was also, preceded in death by her beloved son, Christopher (Chris) Hardy, and daughter, Alice Carmella Hardy-Miller, her brother, Benjamin Franklin Gray, Jr., and brother James Wesley Gray, as well as her sisters, Rosemary Gray-Smith-Demergeau and Hazel Gray.

Alice attended William Henry High School in Delaware. She embraced the joy of learning and sought to expand her horizons. Alice's thirst for knowledge was matched only by her boundless love for her family.

Alice's spirit was nourished by her unwavering faith, which found its home in the sacred Word of God. Within the embrace of her Seventh-Day Adventist religious beliefs, Alice found solace and strength, and she walked humbly in the presence of our Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ.

After retiring from Craft Foods, Dover, DE. Alice's passions were as diverse as the colors of the sunset. She found great joy in playing cards, trying her luck at the slots, and immersing herself in the laughter and love of her cherished grandchildren. Solomon, Josiah, Chystal(Quantez),Tyris, Kevin, Calvin, David, Jr(Baybay), Taemere, Quinton,(Bubbles) Keisha, Ervin (Becky), LaTayna (Tyjuan), Curt, Earl, Earlisha, Jay (Veronica), Blake (Sheena), Andre, Shanita and a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces,and cousins. *Special friends (*Kenneth (Kenny)Collick), Shirely Nelson and Stepfather, Charles (DadDad) Coverdale, Sr. These precious moments brought her immeasurable happiness and left lasting memories for generations to come.

The compassionate staff at Benny Smith Funeral Home, located in Dover, DE, has been entrusted with the sacred duty of honoring Alice's life and guiding her loved ones through this time of mourning. Their support and guidance are deeply appreciated by the family.

A (Family gethering) with family & friends to celebrate her life will be held at the VFW in Greenwood, DE, after the burial service, where we shall gather to celebrate the life of Alice Marie Hardy.
