Alice Thompson "Jean" Horton

Funeral services for Alice "Jean" Thompson Horton, 79, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Charles M. Roberts, Brother Joe Dufner and Brother Vic Bass officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Horton, surrounded by her family, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 24, 2010. She was born September 1, 1930 in Laclede, Missouri and married her soul mate Vernon M. Horton on August 28, 1946. For many years Mrs. Horton was a Sunday school teacher, Good-Sam member and was involved with the Volunteer Christian Builders. She was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Horton was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She was retired from Air Cooled Engine Co., a business that she and her husband founded in 1962. Mrs. Horton always put her loved ones first and never complained about all the aches and pains her family knew she endured. She loved to bake at Christmas, and was well known for her divinity and caramel corn, which she always made for her friends and health care providers. The great-grandchildren always requested Mamaw's homemade rolls and home-grown cream style corn for all the family gatherings. Homemade jellies, preserves and hot sauce were just a few of her specialties. Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, Vernon M. Horton; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry M. Stout of Lufkin; granddaughter, Stacie Stout Robertson and husband Dale of Lufkin; grandson, Rodney M. Stout and wife Pamela of Spring; great-grandchildren, Connor and Kristen Robertson of Lufkin and Taylor and Erin Stout of Spring; sisters, Grace Horton of Lufkin, Helen Thompson of Brookfield, Missouri, Jane Hill of St. Catherine, Missouri and Carolyn Price of Grandview, Missouri; brothers, Bill Thompson of Bucklin, Missouri and Jack Thompson of Idaho; special niece, Sherry Horton Cramer of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Brenda Kay Horton; parents, Blanch (Riddle) and Pete Thompson; and 13 brothers and sisters. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Horton, Johnny Ray Horton, Nick Horton, Paul Johnson, Scott York and Ronnie Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Cramer, Norman Ross, Lester Burks, Martin Glenn, Bob Waltman and Delbert Williford. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Moran and staff, Bethany Home Health Services, and Hospice in the Pines Foundation.
