Alice Sondergard, 98, a lifelong resident of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at Woodlands Senior Park. She was the widow of former Fond du Lac County Sheriff Dan Sondergard.

Alice was born March 27, 1918, the daughter of David Silah and Mary Moses Silah. She graduated from Goodrich High School and worked as a young woman in businesses owned by her mother's family.

She married Dan Sondergard on Feb. 12, 1949. During most of their married life, Alice was a stay-at-home mother who raised five children. In her later years, she was a longtime volunteer in the gift shop at St. Agnes Hospital and a precinct worker at the polling place inside Rosalind Apartments.

Survivors include four children: Mark (Marcia) Sondergard and Nancy Sondergard, both of Fond du Lac; Barb (Tom) Ackerman of Malone; and Mary (Bruce) Engel of Lexington, Ky.; six grandchildren, Leigh (Theran) Myers and Erin Sondergard, both of Madison; Kyle Sondergard of Grafton; Megan Krug (Alex) Bielinski of South Milwaukee; Danny Engel of Lexington, and Lizzie Engel of Arlington, Va.; step-grandson Evan (Sara) Ackerman of Minnesota; great-grandson Alec Myers, and step-great-grandsons Oscar and Elliott Ackerman. In addition to her husband and parents, Alice was predeceased by daughter Linda Sondergard and sister Eleanore Langenberg.

Visitation will start at 9:30 AM. Friday at St. Mary's Church on Merrill Avenue. Services will follow at 11 AM, with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Additional information and guest book may be found at www.ueckerwitt.com.
