Alice Victoria “Vicky” Skelton was born in Macon, Georgia, on April 10, 1943, to Gordon Van Wood and Juanita Fox Wood Fuller – both now deceased.
She graduated from Griffin High School, then from Carson-Newman College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She was an elementary school teacher during her early adult years in the Atlanta area, then she later received a Master’s Degree in Education from Berry College.
Bob and Vicky first met when Bob came to preach a revival at Crestview Baptist Church in Griffin, Georgia, where Vicky was the pianist and her father was the minister. Vicky married Rev. Robert “Bob” Skelton on December 22, 1967, in Atlanta, Georgia. Vicky was a devoted pastor’s wife for fifty-two years.
She was a lifelong pianist, organist, vocalist, and choir director. She especially favored children’s choir events and loved teaching children’s choir to many over the years. Vicky had the honor and privilege of playing piano at hundreds of weddings, funerals, church services, and events over the years. The grand piano at Berry College’s Frost Chapel was placed there in her honor. Her greatest love was playing the piano for her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and at holiday and family celebrations.
In her fifty-two years married to Rev. Bob, Vicky ministered as a faithful pastor’s wife, mentored hundreds of women in the Atlanta area, taught English to international women in the Atlanta area, and led women to a relationship with Christ through meaningful relationships--while Bob served for almost 30 years building WinShape Foundation. One of Vicky’s greatest joys was being a prayer warrior for many, many people throughout the Northwest Georgia area and beyond.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Robert “Bob” M. Skelton of Rome, GA. Her sons: Robert “Rob” M. Skelton, Jr. of Rome, GA; Bret W. Skelton – wife, Dr. Kelly Skelton of Decatur, GA; Matthew V. Skelton of Monroe, WA; and her daughter, Wendy Skelton Whitley – husband, Jonathan Whitley of Rome, GA.
She is also survived by her brother, Timothy Wood of Gainesville, FL, and his wife Shirley Tate Wood. She was preceded in death by her brother, Nathan Wood of Rome, GA.
Vicky “Memom” is survived by her grandchildren, Gabby Skelton, Daphne Skelton, Daniel Skelton, Alexandria Skelton, Ben Skelton, Ellie Skelton, Sally Whitley, Mary Elizabeth Whitley, Johnny Whitley, Ann Claire Whitley, Matthew Skelton, and Emma Skelton. She had 13 chosen grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She also has over 50 nieces and nephews.
Vicky’s greatest joy was her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus, and we celebrate that now she has eternal victory in Heaven.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at 2:00 pm at Fellowship Baptist Church, 314 Burnett Ferry Rd. Rome, GA, with Minister, friends, and family members speaking. Dear Bob and Family, I was so inspired by the tribute the family paid to Vickie and the Celebratlion of Life service. Vickie was an exceptional person with so many God given talents that she shared with everyone she came in contact with. Your family is a testimony to the love and inspiration you and Vickie gave them throughout their lives. As you know, I can remember them as children in Garden Lakes Baptist Church, my daughter Kim said she could remember playing with Rob while I was in choir practice. We have wonderful memories of Vickie and your family.

Bob, I’m so very sorry to hear about your precious Vicky’s home-going. When I think of Vicky, I think of the wonderful ministry you two have had together as a team of one... thousands of lives ~ including mine ~ have been touched by your commitment to our Lord and Savior.
Vicky was an incredible servant and a tremendous role model ...her faithfulness and her investment in so many lives will continue to bring forth fruit. She leaves a tremendous legacy for us all to admire and respect.
As you know better than anybody, her life was so well-lived! You haven’t met my Becky, but I have learned in our 25 years of marriage, that my role as a husband, is like a gardener. As I lovingly encourage her & provide the garden that she can flourish in, she will overflow and touch many lives. Your relationship with Vicky was one of the pictures God gave me of such a love, and her amazing life is a lasting testimony of the great reward that we can look forward to one day when we see Heaven.

Vicky was my only girl (Wood) cousin. We enjoyed seeing each other as we were growing up in Macon, at Mercer, in Fort Worth Texas, at Seminary, where both of our fathers were students and Baptist ministers. I admired and loved her very much. She was so pretty, talented, and very family oriented. I loved hearing her play the piano. She reminded me of my mother and Gordon (her father/ my uncle) who were all very very talented. God chose them because they shared their talents with many.

Vicky was one the kindest people I’ve ever known. We had 2 children that we’re almost the same age so we saw each at events for over 35 years. Wendy is one of my favorite people. She’s much like her Mother. I had the privilege of studying under Bob as interim pastor at my church. Then I became part of the Winshape Family. It’s a privilege to have know this family. Bob, so sorry to hear of Vicky's passing. Both of you have been such a very important part of my life. Jack and I began our married lives with you standing in front of us and Vicky providing the wonderful music. Then you both traveled to marry both of my girls, and again stood with Jack and me as we renewed our vows. Vicky sent me several articles, and nutritional guidelines for us to try with Jack. She was such a joy to be around, and such a light in dark times. She will be dearly missed.

Dear Bob and Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of our dear Mrs. Vicky’s passing. She loved the Lord her God with all her heart, soul, mind and strength, in spite of all her physical difficulties. What an example!
I’m so thankful God allowed me to get to know Mrs. Vicky when I was a student at Berry. Bob, you both impacted so many lives during that time. You loved her so well, so faithfully. I rejoice that she is with the Lord, healed and whole, and I’m praying for all who will miss her presence so deeply.

Bob,
We are so very sorry for your loss. You and Vicky were such encouragement to me and Allison in our time together at Tabernacle and beyond. True friendship in Christ is a rare thing. It is not measured in time spent together, but in hearts that are knit together for the cause of Christ. There are just certain people God brings into your life that help you to stay centered in Jesus and encouraged to "keep on " for His kingdom. Kindness is the word that jumps into my mind when I think about you and Vicky. Al and I will be forever grateful for you and Vicky.
In His grace,
Don and Allison Startup

Vicky's laugh was contagious. She was a mentor to many of her peers as she lived abundantly doing what she did best, she loved others. We were young mothers all trying to be good wives and mothers while serving the Lord. Once a church group of ladies meet Vicky at the large Berry College pool to help enable several handicapped children to enjoy the pool and it turned out to be fun. When at Shorter, Vicky invited me to come share lunch at her home to welcome a new church friend. Another time we met for Bible study and lunch. All of a sudden Vicky gave a little gasp, laughed that laugh as she looked down at her shoes. She had worn the same style black one and the other navy. We were amused when she said, ''Oh well, I have another pair just like them at home." Vicky, those days were a treasure for me and untold others. What a joy it will be to remember you. Tom, I and our children are honored to have been your friends. Well done, God's faithful servant.

So saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs Vicky. Such a beautiful lady inside and out. We are so blessed to have known her. She always had a smile on her face and an infectious joy. She certainly loved you Mr Bob and all the children and grandchildren. I know she will be deeply missed by each of you and all who knew her. May God continue to watch over each of you and provide you with the peace and comfort you need to carry you through this difficult time. We love you and will be lifting each of you up in prayer daily.
