HAMPTON - Mrs. Alice Nettles Winstead, 81, passed away at her home on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004. She was a lifelong resident of the Peninsula and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Preceded in death by her husband, F. Norman Winstead, she is survived by a daughter, Sharon Winstead Mingee and her husband, Wayne, of Hampton; two sons, Frank Norman Winstead of Hampton and Charles Kirk Winstead of Woodbridge; a sister, Marie McVaugh of Newport News; a brother, John Nettles Sr. of Yorktown; and three grandchildren, Mark Norman Mingee and his wife, Kim, Stefanie Lauren Mingee and Steven Wayne Mingee. The family would like to express their special thanks to Elizabeth Tobey, Mrs. Winstead's caregiver for the past two years. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening in Peninsula Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by the Rev. Robert French. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Foundation, Hampton Roads Chapter #20, Suite 233, Interstate Corporate Center, Norfolk, VA 23502.

She was my aunt and my godmother and I will miss her deeply. During most of my childhood she lived next door to me with her darling husband Norman and her children. She has now re-united with her husband and mother, my wonderful grand-mother. Her smile always lit up any place she was. I give my love and deepest sympathy to Sharon, Frank and Kirk. She is now at peace.

Mrs Winstead was my Godmother and my next door neighbor during my childhood. I am sorry for Sharon, Frank and Kirk's loss. There is a lot of childhood memories with the Winsteads.
