Alida Osorio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2015.
Alida Osorio, 72 years old, passed away on January 28, 2015 at St. Bernardine's Medical Center. She was born on August 22, 1942, in Barcelona, Spain to Angel and Alida Iranzo. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Joseph Osorio, PhD and her children and spouses: Ruben Osorio MD and Cheryl Osorio MD, Dina Rappette MBA and Thomas Rappette DPM, Esmeralda Dinnel RN BSN and Jeremy Dinnel. She also had 7 loving grandchildren, Gabriel and Raquel Osorio; Andrew, Isabella and Sofia Rappette; Anica and Adam Dinnel.

Alida was raised in Barcelona, Spain. She attended a preparatory French school and from a very young age became fully fluent in French, Catalan and Spanish; later she would also learn English. At the age of 21, she married Joseph Osorio, an ordained minister of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA), and became the arts and music department coordinator in all his churches and later in his evangelistic campaigns. After starting a family and having 3 children, they decided to become missionaries in South America, where Joseph Osorio was called to be an evangelist in the Colombia-Venezuelan Union. While in Colombia, she worked as an executive secretary at the church union headquarters, and supported her husband during his evangelistic campaigns with audiovisual aids, preparation of topics and visiting prospective church members. After 5 years in the mission field, they attended Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. While there, she learned English and obtained a bachelors degree in Spanish and French literature. The SDA Church then moved the Osorio family to Puerto Rico, where she became a high school teacher. While in Puerto Rico, she decided to pursue a career in pharmacy and began her basic science prerequisite education. Then, in 1985, the SDA Church asked the family to move to Ohio. There, she taught Spanish, French and Chemistry at Centerville Seventh Day Adventist Academy for several years. She attended the school of pharmacy at Ohio State University, and received a Bachelors degree in Clinical Pharmacy in 1992. She worked as a Pharmacist at Kettering Medical Center (Dayton, OH) and later at a K-mart pharmacy for many years. She was also a Certified Notary in Ohio.

On September 11, 2001 Alida was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

She fought the disease with valor and honor, always surrounded by her family and never losing faith in God. She remained a deeply spiritual woman and inspired all of those who knew her.

Alida was a happy, loving, caring and generous individual. She loved to travel, loved music and literature. Most of all she loved her family; she cherished us, comforted us, counseled us through our hardships, and celebrated our successes. She was the glue in our family.

Alida will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, 1 p.m., at Montecito Valley View Chapel, 3520 E. Washington St., Colton, California. Private burial for family will follow at Montecito Memorial Park.

I unfortunately never got to know Alida before her illness. However, her loving, gentle, and caring nature shown through as though I had known her for a lifetime. Her smile was uplifting and her commitment to life and her family was a gift from God. She had such a positive influence on her friends and family in so many ways. Her patients and faith have been such an inspiration to me. I will miss her dearly.

Querida mama:
I love you mom.

Yaya, I love you so much and am happy that this is not the end. And that I will see you again in heaven someday and that you want all of your family to be there. I want to be there too. I am so sorry that you are gone now, but relieved that you are not suffering but resting now in peace. I'm glad you were my grandma. Even though you couldn't talk you taught me things people who could speak couldn't have. You taught me patience, love, bravery, kindness, and compassion. You were so brave and such a blessing to our family. You will be greatly missed by all of us. I'm so happy I had you for the time that I did. I cannot wait until I see you again and then I will get to hear your voice. I know you are happy too and cant wait to be able to speak and move freely again. I think in Heaven I will play you some more hymns on the piano and by then I will be really good. That is my goal. I know you loved it so much to hear me play it so I will practice more and try to get better. I miss you already. I love you so much and wish I could talk to you one more time. And play you a song one more time. And hold your hand one more time. I love you yaya.
Love, Isabella Alida Rappette

Dear Osorio family-

May the wonderful years & memories with Alida; a spouse, mother, grandmother, sibling, daughter, teacher, co-worker, friend, neighbor and child of God -- bring you joy and smiles during the times when you'll be missing her most. Through the stories and brief meetings, she is nothing less than an inspirational, humble and Godly woman who displayed unconditional love and tenderness every day of her life. Her life and presence is visible in all of you! My deepest sympathy during this time of grieving. Praise God she is with Jesus and forever in comfort, peace, joy and in His arms!!

Our thoughts are with your family, We remember Alida during her teaching years at Spring Valley Academy--particularly the biology field trips to Mexico when she was a wonderful help with the language. One time, as she was speaking to a gentleman at the car rental agency, he looked at her and said--you speak such beautiful Spanish. We pray that you will feel the Lord holding you during this sad time.

Sending the whole Osorio family love and strength during this difficult time. I have so many fond memories in high school hanging at your house, having fun and being so loud your mama would shush us multiple times. She was a super fun teacher as well, Ihave lots of good memories of Spanish class. I've seen your mama just a couple times over the last 12 years and when I spoke to her I knew she recognized me. I'm so overwhelmed with pride and admiration for the love and care you all took care of your mama all these years. She is at peace now. Much love.

My sincere condolences to the Osorio family. I knew Alida through church (Wilmington SDA) and studied in her Spanish class at Spring Valley Academy. I've always remembered her as a genuinely kind and caring person with a lovely sense of humor.

I worked with Alida during her employment at Spring Valley Academy. Our daughters were in the same graduating class. She and I took the girls to college in the school van. We spent the night in the Andrews University dorm. We talked and laughed most of the night. Alida was an inspirational person. I enjoyed being around her. She contributed a great deal during her time teaching at Spring Valley Academy. I admired her zest for education. I look forward to seeing her again when Jesus comes. Diann Ring

One does not need to know a person directly to know they were an incredible person. We know Alida was an incredible person because we know her daughter. Someone who raises such a quality child to contribute, enjoy, and really live life must have those same qualities. We look forward to meeting Alida in the soon coming kingdom.
