Carlton Jr., Allan James Oct. 16, 1925 ~ Feb. 16, 2004
Allan J. Carlton, Jr. of Newport Beach died February 16, 2004, after a valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lorraine Carlton; sons, John and Jeff (Joan); daughter, Connie Hillman, and grandsons, Emory and James Hillman. Allan was born in Los Angeles to Allan and Madora May Carlton. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II stationed at Treasure Island in the San Francisco area. After the war he returned to Southern California and attended junior college before joining his father in the family business, Carlton Forge Works, in Paramount, California. During his tenure as Chairman of Carlton Forge Works he grew a small local company to a highly recognized world leader in the aerospace industry. Under his leadership the company formed partnerships with industry leaders such as General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce, Volvo and Honeywell. Allan loved life and had many interests. He was an avid sports fisherman, especially deep-sea fishing on the "El Tigre" and most recently the "Lauren C" setting numerous world records many of which are still in the IGFA books today. Allan and Lorraine attended many Masters Tournaments in Florida over the years and Allan won this prestigious event in 1971. Among his other passions were golfing, piloting his own planes, hunting and dominoes shared with family and friends. Refusing to retire, Allan spent most weekdays at the office where more business was accomplished over a game of dominoes than anything else. Allan was generous to a fault and shared his success with all of those around him. He was a generous contributor to the City of Paramount as well as many Orange County charitable foundations, with most recently a major contribution to Hoag Hospital. Allan's generosity and love of life will be truly missed by his family, friends and employees. Services will be held on Friday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andrews Rd., Newport Beach with assistance provided by Pacific View. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to Hoag Hospital Foundation (benefiting the Cancer Center), P.O. Box 6100, Newport Beach, CA 92658.
