Allan Webb Motter

1944 ~ 2013

At 11:35 on Sunday morning, December 15, 2013, Allan Webb Motter peacefully accepted the inevitable, after almost 4 years of battling esophageal/stomach cancer.

Allan grew up in the small town of Lancaster, WI and benefitted greatly from all it had to offer including many lifelong cherished friendships from this incredible place. He loved basketball and the trumpet. He was the recipient of the first music award at Lancaster Senior High School not only for being an outstanding musician but also for his leadership. During the Vietnam War he was selected by the Army to play taps at military funerals, which he did with great feeling and respect.

Allan began working in the food industry in his family's company, Motter Produce. His first job after graduating from the University of Wisconsin was with Swift Foods, he then worked with Tyson. He left Tyson to become a partner in a food company in San Diego, Joseph Webb. In San Diego he met and married the love of his life, Gretchen.

He moved to Seattle when he purchased MacDonald Meats in 2000. He loved Seattle and all the people he met and knew. Allan loved a good story, and there never was a more loyal and caring friend. He remained a diehard Green Bay Packer fan his entire life and had his beloved dog, Breezy, wear a Packer scarf around his neck.

Allan loved a good time, travel and most of all telling stories and reminiscing. He will be greatly missed! Especially by his dearest partner and wife, Gretchen. He will also be missed by his niece Catherine, Andrew, Jack and Gabriella, nephew James, and all of the Hope Family. He was predeceased by his parents Marian and Arthur and his sister Mary. No service is planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Lancaster Community Center Band Stage in Allan's name. Donations should be forwarded to: Jennifer Bernetzke, Lancaster Public Library, 113 West Elm Street,

Lancaster, WI 53813 (608)723-7304.

Deepest sympathy in the passing of Allan for his family and friends. Allan taught me so much about Sales and the food service industry. A great boss and friend. He will be greatly missed by so many!
No more pain.

Al was a great guy and a class act, I only
had the pleasure of knowing him for one year but he always had a kind word and a warm smile. A great guy to have known.
He will be missed.

Gretchen, so sorry to hear the news. I knew Al was hurting the last few time I spoke to him, but, he wanted to hold on for you... he was a real fighter and you gave him the will to last as long as he did.
Al, Rob and myself were roommates for a short time right after collage in Chicago.... with no jobs! While job hunting, we all 'over enjoyed' the Chicago nightlife... even though we had to look for joints with no covers and 50 cent beer specials to survive our budgets. Rob & I were hardly able to get up most mornings, but, somehow Allan always did! He landed that Swift job with only $125 left in his bank account...and, the rest of his business career is legendary! Al always remembered the good times from those early years, as did Rob & myself. As faith would have it, we lost Rob a little over a year ago... and now Al!... they will both be missed, but, those good times will be remembered often!

I am so sorry to hear of Allan's passing.
He was a good friend and like many others I will miss our occassional chats.
He was so appreciative of Gretchen and often commented on the countless sacrifices she made for him.
My sincere condolences to Gretchen and the family.
