James Allan TAFF Freeman, Jr. (1945-2021) Progressive Rock and Roll legend, keyboardist, singer, songwriter for the legendary band, NEKTAR. Born June 7, 1945 in Glasgow, Scotland. He was the son of James Freeman Sr.
As a child he was mentored by his father on organ, keyboard and vocals. Taff performed along with his father's famous band, THE JAMES FREEMAN ORCHESTRA, touring the war hospitals throughout Scotland. It was during those years that James learned the joy of gratitude and charity, as well as the healing nature of music.
In 1969, while living in Germany, at the age of 24, Taff met Derek Moore, Ron Howden & Roye Albrighton. What followed was the birth of NEKTAR. By 1976, the band had produced multiple gold records and outgrew the venues in Germany.
In 1976, NEKTAR moved to the USA and shortly thereafter disbanded. Taff married his soulmate and settled in NJ. He continued writing and producing music. In 1980, Taff Freeman and Roye Albrighton released "Man in the Moon."
In 2001, the duo, along with Ray Hardwick released "Prodigal Son." Finally in 2002, the original NEKTAR members reunited for "Nearfest" to a sold out crowd in Trenton, NJ.
Taff's Hammond B3 resonates his signature play throughout NEKTAR'S first ten albums including "Evolution" released in 2004.
Taff was a very soft spoken gentleman. He loved his wife first and adored music. Keeping always his dual citizenship to remain proudly Scottish, keeping Scotland his home forever.
He is survived by his wife Lisa "Angel," HIS LITTLE DRUMMER GIRL.
Taff has left this world but his music will speak to us forever.
In honor of Taff's wife, in lieu of flowers, monetary contributions would be greatly appreciated. She is disabled due to a spinal injury and has recently been diagnosed as legally blind. She has extreme complications due to her condition and is in need of full-time assistance. Contributions can be made through the GoFund me page below:
