Allan Terrett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 8 to Nov. 22, 2023.
Allan Terrett, age 77, from Gold Beach, OR, passed away on November 1, 2023, after a long, hard-fought battle for the past 7 years.

Born an only child to his parents (predeceased), Maurice and Elsie (Parmenter), in New Castle, England on October 7, 1946. Allan was raised in London, England.

Allan attended The University of London to become a Bespoke tailor. He owned his own shop in Herefordshire, England. He had the privilege of making custom suits for the likes of Tom Jones, The Bee Gees, and many more.

In the summer of 1968, while traveling through Rimini, Italy, with his best friend John Allender, they heard the devastating news of Robert F. Kennedy's assassination. Using his typical English wit and charm, "Casanova" saw an opportunity to console a beautiful American woman, Robin (Gale), who just so happened to be traveling through Europe with her friends. Robin could not resist, and the rest was history.

They married on December 27, 1969, in Salam, OR. They lived in England for 5 years before deciding to move across the pond in 1975 to join Robin's father, National Basketball Hall of Famer "Laddie" Gale, in Gold Beach, OR. Allan went to work for Laddie at Sportsman's Reality, Inc. until 1981 when he took over the firm.

Allan became a US Citizen in 1979. In 1981 Maurice and Elsie moved to Gold Beach to join Allan and Robin and their growing family.

It did not take long for Allan to become a respected member of the Gold Beach community. He was heavily involved in Rotary and the Rotary Exchange Youth Exchange Program. Allan was on the School Board, Real Estate Board, and was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Anyone who knew Allan loved Allan. He was always the life of the party. His love for family, friends, and the Rogue River created many, many memories that will live on in our hearts forever.

Allan is survived by his beautiful wife of 54 years, Robin (Gale), his three most precious gifts, Chelsea (Tom), Carley (Ed), Lindsay (Nathan), five adoring grandchildren, Alex (27), Brayden (21), Sydney (20), Jericho (8), and Bronson (6). He will be forever missed by his fur babies Riffle and Kimball, and too many fur grandbabies to list.

Join us on December 16, 2023, 11am, at Bethany Lutheran Church for a Celebration of Life.

Our family lost a wonderful and dear friend when Allan passed last month. We have nothing but good memories of those years of our families growing up together in Gold Beach, all the special times we spent together, and Al's incorporation of humor, intended or not, into so many of them. His parents raised him well -- even in the U.S. he was a proper English gentleman. Gold Beach was lucky to have him as part of their/our community for so many years.

When Allen first came to America My mom Halle picked him and his friend John up from the Portland airport. They stopped at a rest stop on the way to Salem and Allan was In awe of all the tall trees, and how green everything was. This is like a national park, He said. Piggly Wiggly also caught him by surprise, "this is blimey gigantic! ` He and John we´re like a comedy act of Monte python and the Beatles. Mom showed him off to all her bridge club. We all loved him immediately. my favorite memory is he him playing with the kids, he was just one of them. He surprised all of us nine months ago at Hank´s funeral, by giving a speech of how if he was on deserted island and could only pick one person to be with him it would be Hank. He admired his outdoor skills and loved him as a brother-in-law. I will miss him.

Allan was a great man, husband, father, friend and Rotarian. He had a fine sense of humor, and I loved his British accent. He will be missed in the Gold Beach community .
