Allen Davenport Bragdon So Yarmouth - Allen Davenport Bragdon, 92, passed away on Jan 25, 2023. Allen was born to Joanna (Davenport) and Clifford R. Bragdon in Cleveland, OH and had one sister, Cherry.

After exec. roles at Doubleday & Co., Macmillan Publishers, and American Heritage, he established Allen D. Bragdon Publishers (1974). One of his major projects was Family Creative Workshop for Time Life Books which found its way into homes across the country. During his long career in publishing, he created an eclectic array of books and materials on varied subjects including craft, food, how-to, fairy tales, baby clothes and the brain. He was educated at The Putney School, Reed College and at the Harvard Business School. He entered the Navy as an officer and was stationed in Naples, Italy. It was here that he met Gloria Scala who became his wife and mother of his children. After their divorce, he met and married famed author Irena Chalmers.

In 2002, while mountain biking in Italy, he found his dream home in an ancient walled hilltop village. After overseeing a complete renovation, he split his time between Tuscany and Cape Cod.

Allen was a passionate sailor and was very involved in the New England Beetle Cat Boat Association and the Bass River Yacht Club where he held the position as Commodore.

He is survived by his two children Allen C. Bragdon and Sara Capstick, his daughter in law Catherine Creamer and five grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on August 6, 2023 at the Bass River Yacht Club. Contact [email protected] for details. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Bass River Sailing School, South Yarmouth, MA 02664.
