Allen Curtis

Allen Vincent Curtis, AO

12 July 1917 - 29 December 2016


Allen passed away peacefully at
Baptist Care, Canberra at the end of a journey that lasted close to a century.


Allen was the fifth of nine children born in St Kilda, Melbourne, to John Wilson Curtis and Jeanette Elizabeth Curtis (née Smith), who taught their children to be loving and abiding believers of the Christian faith.


Allen is survived by his first wife
Daphne Isabelle Curtis (née Smythe) and
their son Laurence Wilson Curtis and
daughter-in-law Theresa Curtis
(née Lankowski).


He was pre-deceased by his second wife
Josephine (née Tauro) in 1993.


Allen found a kindred and devoted partner in June Parker, with whom he spent the last decade of his life.


He is also survived by his loving brothers Alfred Emmerson Curtis and
Thomas Cooper Curtis.


Allen is fondly remembered as a great mate and grandfather to grandsons
Sean Paul, Mark Allen, Scott Wilson and
Aaron Martin Curtis.


He will be missed by his many relatives in Australia ,Canada and England for his generosity and his courageous spirit as well as for hosting family gatherings in his beloved Fern Tree Gully home in the Dandenongs.


Allen's calling was to share and provide, and this he did for many in Canberra and in the world he so frequently travelled. Throughout much of his life he was passionately involved in community service as well as with the Real Estate Institute. He was particularly passionate about growing the fledgling YMCA during its formative years in Canberra.


Allen loved life and he loved Australia especially the bush, where simple things
made his spirits soar.


A memorial service for Allen will be held in the Canberra City Uniting Church,
69 Northbourne Ave, Canberra, on
SATURDAY, 7 January 2017,
commencing at 11:00 am.

In memory of Allen, a donation may be made to "Early Morning Centre" at the service.
