A great friend and co-worker. I always regreted not buying his 59 Chevy when he left Canada for visa control. My memory of him will always endure. Sad to think he is no longer with us.

Truly dedicated to sport and its potential in building a better Canada. He always had time for others and delighted in sharing his thinking about the importance of sport.

Al was a most welcomed addition to our family for the past few years. We were together for all key celebrations including Birthdays, Holidays and other special occasions. Al's eyes always lit up and a smile came to his face when he was with Shirley and her family. We enjoyed his humour, his conversation and his kind heart. We were fortunate to have Al in our lives for this time. Dearest Al - We miss you already and you will never be forgotten.

With sadness, a wonderful man's life has passed. His sweet disposition and corny jokes will be missed! My moms high school sweetheart rekindled in their golden years. He was an RCMP officer and Olympic referee for basketball, recently inducted into the James Naismith hall of fame for his contribution to the sport. After a difficult fight with Parkinson's, always with graciousness, never complaining, I believe he is running free somewhere rid of his bound body!!!

A great Basketball Referee, creator of the FIBA Referee Casebook to interpret the Rules, great commitment to advancing Basketball in Canada and with character beyond reproach. A pioneer of Basketball and Canadian Officiating and a valued colleague.

Al was a person of tremendous integrity. He had a passion for sport, and thankfully took on the task of promoting the interests of the oft-taken for granted thousands upon thousands of volunteer sport officials who dedicate so much of their time and effort, just as Al did, to enable sport in Canada to function for the joy and benefit of athletes and all those associated in whatever manner with it. I will miss you Al. Sport will miss you.

Classy gentleman. One of the most respected people ever to wear a referees shirt.
