Dad passed away March 31, 2019 after weeks of illness and difficulty. He was born in SLC, Utah to Walter and Katherine Ricks on July 25, 1933. As a boy, he spent much time at Liberty Park boating, ice skating and playing. He worked hard on his dad’s 5 acre farm, raised rabbits and had a pet chicken. Married to Pauline Cora Vander Werff on February 6, 1953.
We will miss him so much. He was such a good dad, really let all of his children know he cared about and loved them. Amazing sense of humor. He was a very hard worker and usually had two jobs, one with the SLC fire department (also an EMT), and one working construction or installing water softeners or windows etc. Built one of our homes doing almost all of the work himself and helped his father build their home when he was a teenager. Veteran of the Korean War when he was very young. Active in scouts as a boy and Scoutmaster later. Temple worker at the Jordan River Temple.
He is the father of 8 children Dale Allen Ricks (Robbie), Dean Ray Ricks, Yvonne Michelle Petty (Kenneth), Glen Reid Ricks, Gary Kent Ricks (Amy), Pamela Rae Ricks, Kimberly Johnson (Glenn), Kelly John Ricks (Amy); 48 grandchildren and 68 great grandchildren. Glad you are with our mom after waiting 15 years. Love to think of you two reunited.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6th at 10 AM at the LDS Chapel 12988 So. 1300 W. Riverton, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the Broomhead Funeral Home 12600 So. 2200 W. Riverton and one hour prior at the church. Interment Mona City Cemetery.

"FINAL ALARM"
Rest now my brother firefighter
Lay soft your suffering back
Rest well and forever
Your memory shall not lack
Rest your tired hands
Wipe clean your weary brow
Rest with St. Florian
Your spirit now endowed
Rest here your heart
We know you gave your all
Rest easy, you've done your part
and now you've answered your last call
As we ring the final bell.
