Allen Aaron Sinel

I'm saddened to hear of Dr. Sinel's passing. He taught me in Arts One at UBC in 1981. I lacked the life experience for so much of what he introduced me to but he was patient and I am grateful for what I learned from him. A fine man with a great sense of humour and ready smile. Thanks, Allen.

My husband Leonidas Hill (Ted) very much valued having him as a colleague.

Mr. Sinel has inspired, supported, and encouraged me through my academic career. He has truly influenced my life in such a wonderful way. His friendship and enthusiasm will be missed. I send my condolences to his family.

Allen was such a good man. He seemed to be interested in absolutely everything. Maybe that's why we always left his company more thoughtful about the world and its possibilities. He was especially wonderful with children, ours included, because he genuinely loved them. We truly miss him.

Although Allen was a respected scholar, what I most remember about him (and cherish) was his playfulness. He was wonderful with children and will remain an inspiration to many.

Allen's wit, his sense of humour, and his great intellect made him an inspiring friend and fellow wine lover!

Allen was a very special man, a real family man with a close circle of friends, a delight in life, great warmth and humour. He was deeply interested in other people's stories and always encouraging in one's endeavours. I knew him well during the years I lived in Canada 1990-2000 and he remained a good friend subsequently. He was one of the most loyal people you could meet. His death is a blow, but he will live on in our memories with enormous affection. - Christine Cohen Park

Allen was family to us. Our children and grand-children called him "Incle Allen" and delighted in his company as did we.

Allen's teaching so directly impacted the path of my life, and his friendship enriched it. I will miss him profoundly. Love to Zoe and Alexa.

Allen was a good friend. I miss our phone calls and lunches. May his memory be a blessing to Alexa, Zoe, Norman, and to all Allen's colleagues and friends.

I am very sad that Allen left our world. It was a privilege to see him even briefly over the years and to have dinner at his home two years ago. A very warm and caring man , full of charm and wit. I will always keep him in my heart.

We will never completely adjust to not having Allen in our lives from day to day, but we will always have him in our thoughts.

I had the pleasure of being taught by Dr. Sinel in the early 90's in the Honors History program. He was a wonderful scholar and a great mentor. My condolences to his family.
