Allen Tuttle Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 22, 2009.
Allen Walter Tuttle, 74, of Rome, Pa., passed on to Heaven Friday evening, Feb. 20, 2009, at the Memorial Hospital, North Towanda Township, Pa., after an extended illness.

Allen was born Oct. 9, 1934, in Sayre, Pa., the son of the late Donald and Beverly Woodward Tuttle.

Allen married Betty Irene Mosier of Durell on Dec. 14, 1951, and resided in Durell, where they raised seven children together.

Allen was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 10 years and Samuel Fulmer's Service Center in Wysox for 10 years, drove school bus, and owned and operated Tuttle's Gun Shop in Durell for 15 years until a stroke left him paralyzed and forced him to retire.

Allen was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend who loved his family dearly, and would help anyone who needed him. He loved to go deer hunting and watch Westerns among many other things. Anyone who knew him knew he had a heart of gold. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are: his wife of 57 years, Betty Tuttle, at home; his children, Charles Tuttle and his wife, Bette, of Towanda, Pa., Vickie Curtis and her special friend, Rick Pierce, of Towanda, Sandra Harris and her husband, Donald, of Towanda, Cathy Bennett and her husband, James, of Monroeton, Pa., Jack Tuttle and his wife, Jan, of Wyalusing, Pa., Randy Tuttle and his wife, Pam, of Ulster, Pa., Judy Page and her husband, Joseph, of Breesport, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; his brother, Ronald Tuttle and his wife, Paula, of Wysox, Pa.; his sisters, Alice Johnson and her husband, Kenneth, of Monroeton, Evelyn Boyles of Wysox; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Donald and Beverly Tuttle, Allen was preceded in death by his brothers Donald Tuttle of Ulster and Joseph Tuttle of New Albany, Pa.; his sisters Nancy Stevens of New Albany and Barbara Woodruff of New Jersey; a brother-in-law, Sheldon Boyles of Wysox; and a sister-in-law, Joann Farr Tuttle of Ulster.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the Maryott- Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. Sandy Brant, pastor of the Ulster United Methodist Church, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the charity or organization of one's choice in Allen Walter Tuttle's memory.

Aunt Betty & Family,
Uncle Allen was an inspiration to all of us, we will always remember him for being one of the few people who always had a smile on his face no matter what the situation, and was always glad to see you even if for only a few minutes, he will be greatly missed. Cherish your memories and may his warm smile and twinkling blue eyes stay forever in your hearts.
