Alice and Family

I am thankful that I had the opportunity to visit with Allin at the CSEG reception in October. He will be greatly missed by the society- Allin has served on the executive - and by the geophysical community which admired his contributions so much.
So, it is a personal loss for me and a great loss for the geophysical profession and society.

I was very shocked and saddend to hear about Allin's tragedy. It is so unexpected since we were having a great time bird hunting just a few short weeks ago. At work Allin was the guy to talk to if you had difficult technical problems and we always had fun discussions.
Allin was a true Renaaissance man, he knew about everything. While duck hunting he could talk about geostatistics and then go home to use his home-made feather plucking machine!
My sincere sympathy to Allice and Family. Allin is in my thoughts from very far away.
Sincerely Denis Couturier in Cairns, Australia

Alice and Family: So very sorry to hear about Allin. It was a shock to hear, but we have so many wonderful memories of Stampede breakfasts, long conversations bout the oil patch (with Denis), ranching in general and any topic under the son. Denis was happy to have gone pheasant hunting just 2 weeks prior, so another fond memory. Denis is out of the country but wanted you to know how much we will miss dear Allin. A wonderful friend and co-worker. He accomplished more than so many of us and lived life to the fullest! We will miss everything, laugh and exuberance for life!

Alice and family,
I learnt a lot about geology and geophysics from Allin working and teaching statistics courses with him at Petro-Canada. Allin was the master to go to with any questions. He was always helpful and always had the time for you and your silly questions. I was lucky to enjoy Allin's and your hospitality at your stampede breakfast where both of your generosity and love of friends were evident. Allin will be missed but what he has passed on to all of us will carry on. My condolences to you and your family.

Deeply saddened to hear about Al's tragic passing. I will always remember Al and Alice coming over with the latest wild game, and wilder adventures that came with it. Al's booming jovial laugh would echo through our house as he told his stories in such detail while his smile engulfed his entire face. After I had completed my university degree, I learned of Al and Alice's academic achievements and was in utter disbelief that my long time farmer neighbors were such accomplished scholars as well. I had a fantastic chat with Al last time I was over about his studies, however he was more interested to give us a full tour of his garden, and the techniques that grew the healthiest Russian cabbage. I will always remember Al so full of life, happy, and forever smiling.

Alice and family,

Allin's exuberance for life and learning will be remembered by all who knew him. He was an inspiration to UofC graduate students in the Fold-Fault Research Project and also great at explaining to engineers how geoscientists' minds work. Before a geoscience committee meeting in August we got talking about picking and shelling fresh nuts in Spain and I couldn't help but smile when reading about how much he enjoyed them. My thoughts and sympathy are with you.

Alice and family; Chris and I were devastated and shocked at the news about Allin. We all loved Allin's laugh and his zest for life. I fondly remember teaching our risking short course at PetroCan with Allin and how Allin was the Jedi Master at flipping the decision tree - a skill that still eludes me to this day. We offer our most sincere condolences and love to Alice and her family on this tragic loss but also our appreciation for Allin's 'life we'll lived'! What an excellent example to us all. Unfortunately we are out of the country and will not be able to attend the celebration but please know that we will be there in spirit. Doug and Chris Gardner
