Virginia Woods Fontenot, age 83, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 in Lake Charles, La. She was born on March 20, 1936 in Jasper, TX to Virgie Ola Herrin and Willie Edgar "Snake eyes" Woods, both of Newton County, TX.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond and Marvin Woods, both of Houston, TX, and her sister, Syble Keel of Newton, TX.

She is survived by her siblings, Faye Maddoux and husband, Ralph of Lufkin, TX; Joe Woods and wife, Nancy of New Boston, TX; Glenda Crain and husband, James of Sulphur, LA.
Virginia also leaves behind two daughters, Debra Lowry and husband, Terry of San Augustine, TX and Diane Bertrand and husband, Kenneth of Lufkin, TX; granddaughter, Carmon Bernard and her two children, Kenny Joe and Adalina; granddaughter, Kimberly Bertrand and her two children, Leeland and Zona all of Iowa, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Virginia was a gospel singer for many years. She and her band, Heavenward Bound Sounds traveled to many churches and auditoriums across Southwest Louisiana. She was one of the first to own and operate a successful exclusive Womens Size Clothing Shop, Ample Fashions in Lake Charles, LA.
Whatever her title may have been to you personally, Virginia, Momma, Grannie, Aunt Jean, Sister – they all stood for laughter, love, and a giving heart. Her memory will always bring a smile to the hearts of all that knew her.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, LA. Reverend Kenneth Sonnier will officiate. Burial will be held privately in Ford Cemetery in Buckhorn, TX. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday night and will resume at 11 a.m. on Saturday until time of service all at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Landmark of Lake Charles for all the wonderful care givers to their loved one, Alma Fontenot.
