We have special memories of times in Richmond Hill Free Methodist Church.
He made everyone feel special. We remember one stormy Sunday night when only 3 showed up for the evening service, he went throught the whole service as if the church was full. The home visits were special & the Goulds made sure every member was visited. Their lives were a testimony of the faithfulness of God & we were blessed to have been a part of their lives. We also enjoyed our visits to the Soo.
We already miss the telephone conversations.
Pastor Gould worked hard for the Lord & is now enjoying his eternal rest.
Our prayers are with Mrs. Gould & family.
Gary & Lee Keep (Richmond Hill)
P.S. I was reminded by the Spence girls that they remembered how special communion times were, when the elements were passed, Pastor Gould would tell them how much Jesus loved them & they were to tell Jesus they loved Him.

We have many noteworthy memories and deep appreciation for Al's influence and friendship with our families. There are the fond memories for Lowell,
son of Asa and Bertha Smith, Campbell's Bay, Quebec. Al was their pastor and worked for Smith Brothers during the week. There are the heartfelt memories for Ruth and connections with the James' family, including Ruth's brothers,Merrill and Homer. Al preached and Homer sang on many occasions.
 Al fought a good fight,finished the course and kept the faith. { 2 Timothy 4:7 }
With love to you, Phyllis, and all of your family ,

Dear Mrs. Gould and all family members,
On behalf of all members of the Toronto Chinese Methodist Church, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to you all.
We thank the Lord for Rev. and Mrs. Gould's support to our church community since the beginning of our church 30 years ago. Your presence, advice, love and care had touched our pastors, leaders and members.
Personally, I had been touched by Rev. Gould's life through his pastoral involvement and leadership in both the Cantonese and English ministries of our church. He had played an important part in my own life journey as a pastor.
Indeed, both Rev. Gould and Mrs. Gould had made a difference in the life of our church and in the lives of many individuals.
We are praying for you. May the Lord's peace be with you at this moment!

Dear Aunt Phyl and Family, I was so sorry to hear that Uncle Al had passed away. He will be missed by so many and most of all by you.
Even though we did not see you often, Uncle Al held a special place in my heart. He had such a way of making even the smallest child feel special. How I looked forward to the exciting days of your return from the mission field. It was always fun to be with the cousins. I remember some wonderful family times during your years in Perth.
Uncle Al was an exceptional, caring man and loved by many.
May the peace of knowing he is with his Heavenly Father carry you through this difficult time. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Love Vance and Judy

"Uncle Al" as he was known to so many missionary kids - including me (even as far away as Central Africa) was always a caring and wonderful person. Great sense of humor and lots of love for kids and young people. My condolences and yet my assurance that "Uncle Al" is exactly where he always intended to be. Praise God for another life well lived to the glory of God.

On June 17th,1944, Halifax bomber NA514, on operations to Sterkrade,Germany, was shot down over Holland killing the pilot(G
Blachford),bomb-aimer (S Lough) rear-gunner (Elwin Gould, brother of Alton). Three crew members survived & became POW. My brother Roy Carter (navigator) was caught while evading and on July 9th,1944 was executed by the Gestapo. Rev Alton Gould later visited all families of the deceased (2 in Western Canada) to offer comfort and prayers, especially to the grieving mothers.
He was very kind to me, a seven year old boy, and sent me letters and stamps from China. I lost touch with him for 60 plus years but we were recently re-connected indirectly and the association with my family was still in his memory.
`Well done, you good and faithful servant....` (Matt 25:21)

My association with "Al" pretty much goes back to my infancy as my parents attended McCord Bible School with him and I was born during that time. I remember times when he was back on deputation and my father, a pastor and often the chair of the conference Missions Committee, would take him around to the different churches. He was a wonderful man. My condolences to the family.

As a young pastor in the Free Methodist Church I was inspired by Alton's commitment to the Lord and that he took an interest in me. His energy and commitment to the Lord's work even at "retirement age" was impressive.

We are saddened to hear of our much loved former Pastor's passing. Dr. Gould will be remembered for many things, but chief among them was his ability to make you feel so special to him, and the smallest task you did for him was always acknowledged by one of his personal, hand written notes of appreciation.
He will be forever in our hearts. Fred & Hilda Martin, Bowmanville, (formerly Richmond Hill) Ontario

I have many happy memories of Pastor Gould from the time I was a young teenager at the Richmond Hill Free Methodist Church. He loved the children and young people. I may not remember every word he preached, but the impression he made on me will never go away. God sent Pastor and Mrs. Gould to us at the perfect time in our lives and we saw Him revealed in them. My sincerest condolences to Mrs. Gould and family.

Alton Gould was good enough to take me under his wing over 25 years ago and bring me and my young family to Toronto. I will forever be grateful for the example and wise counsel he provided as we served in ministry together. We're thinking of you, Phyllis and family.

I am so thankful for Alton Gould, and the influence and encouragement he was as I visited him in the Davey Home. My husband and I are now reading his favorite devotional by F.B.Meyer, and are also being blessed. Now Alton has joined "the great crowd of witnesses to the life of faith."
