Alton R Hardy

Funeral services for Mr. Alton R. Hardy, 73, of Marshall, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 10, 2011, in the chapel of Downs Funeral Home, with Bro. Joe Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Colonial Gardens Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2011, at the funeral home. Mr. Hardy passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011, at his residence in Marshall.
Alton Reid Hardy was born in Marshall, Texas, to Gavin Hardy and Lillie Reel Hardy, on January 17, 1938. He attended Marshall schools and was a member of the Cowboy Church of Hallsville. He was the former owner of Hardy Overhead Doors. He restored Cushman Scooters and was active in their club and also attended the Whataburger Coffee Club.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Peek Hardy of Marshall; two sisters, Elizabeth Hardy of Shreveport, La., and June Phillips Coltharp of Marshall. Also surviving Mr. Hardy are his granddaughter, Cheyenne Fyffe of Marshall; his adopted son, King Rivers of Marshall; two stepchildren, Connie Bensen and husband Ronald of Marshall, and Terry Simmons and wife Jeaneen of Marshall; his niece, Tricia Hart and husband Ben of Marshall; nephew, Dr. W.W. Weldon and wife Paula of Lubbock; and great nephew Zach Hart and wife Crystal of Marshall.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Tammy Fyffe, his parents and three sisters.
