Alva Benson Obituary
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Alva Vellone "Jeanne" Benson, age 73, of Bossier City, Louisiana, devoted wife, mother and grandmother went to be with the Lord Feb. 23, 2007, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Marshall Floyd, Jr. and Emegine May Floyd.
Jeanne was born on July 21, 1933 in Morristown, NJ. She married the love of her life, Tom Benson in Los Angeles, CA in 1952. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Barksdale United Methodist Church, in which she was an active member of the church choir and the United Methodist Women. She was a teacher for 20 years in the Bossier Parish School District, where she served on various committees. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. A kind and gentle person, she always saw the best in everyone around her. Jeanne "Gram" will be greatly missed by her family, church family and many friends, but we know that this angel that has meant so much to so many here on earth will be at home in heaven.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, William Thomas "Tom" Benson; two sons, Mike Benson and wife, Linda of Noblesville, IN, Tim Benson and wife, Wendy of Flower Mound, TX; one daughter, Judy Butterfield and husband, Roland "Gus" of Germantown, TN; one brother, Charles Floyd, III of Homosassa Florida; one sister, Barbara Vogt of St. Croix U.S. Virgin Islands; six grandchildren, Zack Butterfield, Colleen Benson, Jake Butterfield, Jon Benson, Sara Butterfield and Reece Benson; and numerous other friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held Feb. 26, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at Hill Crest Funeral Home in Haughton, LA with Paul Carrol, pastor of Barksdale United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007.
Serving as pallbearers will be Grandsons: Zack Butterfield, Jake Butterfield, Jon Benson, Reece Benson and family friends Ken Kruithof and Bobby Marlow. Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 318-949-9415

I was so sorry to hear of your loss.She was the epitome of kindness and many other great qualities during the time I had the opportunity to work with her on the Bossier Arts Council. She will be dearly missed. May her sweet spirit remain with the family. Most of all May God keep you in his care.
