Alvan G Gerber

Alvan G. Gerber, a long-time resident of Vancouver, Washington passed away on August 14, 2015 due to complications from Alzheimer's. Alvan was born to Gilbert and Maude Gerber in Morton, WA on February 10, 1938. He graduated from W. F. West High School in Chehalis, WA in 1956.

He met the love of his life, Judith Gerber in Vancouver and they were married on May 7, 1967 in Carson City, Nevada. They were happily married for 35 years until Judy's passing on September 3, 2002.

He worked as a brakeman and conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad for 44 years and retired in 2000.

Al was an avid tennis player and was a member for years at both Club Green Meadows and the Vancouver Tennis Center. What he may have lacked in finesse with some of his tennis shots, he won many times by sheer determination. In his later years, he became a daily bike rider, where in 10 years he logged over 25,000 miles.

He leaves behind his three children: his daughter, Doris Booth (James), of Vancouver, Washington, his son, Gilbert Gerber, of Denver, Colorado and his daughter, Lynn Gerber (David), of Portland, Oregon; one granddaughter, Kaila Thomson (Matt), of Portland, Oregon; and one brother, Carl Gerber, (Connie), of Centralia, Washington.

Alvan was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Maude; his wife Judy; his sisters Ruth and Doris; and his brother Neal.

Per Alvan's request there is to be no memorial service.
