Alvena Rose Richard of Cedaredge, Colorado, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2025, at St Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was 87. A service will be held at the Taylor Funeral Service chapel in Delta, Colorado, on December 23rd, beginning at 1:00 p.m., followed by an additional gathering in Florida at a later date. Alvena Bowling was born on February 17, 1938, to William Alvin Bowling and Bessie Mae (Doolin) Bowling in Yokum, West Liberty, Kentucky. She was the only girl of five children. At the age of 15, she married John P Boggs, and to this union, two daughters were born: Debra and Paula. Alvena later met and married the love of her life, Ronald Richard. A blended family was formed as Ron brought to the marriage a daughter, Carol, and a son, Michael. Alvena and Ron later added a son, Allan, who completed their family. Ron and Alvena were married for 47 years when Ron passed on July 23, 2016, in Delta, Colorado. Alvena enjoyed baking, crafting, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a simple lady with simple needs who loved the Lord. She fiercely loved her family and was always available with a listening ear and good advice. She had the most beautiful smile and laughed easily. Due to her great love for both people and animals, the Shelter Shoppe was one of her most favorite places to be. That is where you could find her volunteering for the last fourteen years, smiling behind the counter and excited to meet every person who walked through the door. All who were fortunate enough to know her will miss her sweet but spicy spirit. Those grateful to have shared her life are her three daughters: Debby (Pete) Blair of Cedaredge, Colorado, Paula (Jim) Nuhn of Gulfport, Florida, and Carol Richard of Clearwater, Florida; and her one son, Allan Richard of Titusville, Florida. She is also survived by five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Memorial contributions can be made to The Friends of Cedaredge Animal Control, PO Box 353, Cedaredge,CO 81413.
